CZ Bren 2 NR in 7.62x39 in Canada yet?

Finding a restricted one and having a longer barrel is your only option right now unless someone is selling one that this has already been done.

Im tempted to scoop up a stubby 5.56 tbh, although the May 1st OIC has me put off from Restricted rifles .
I'll probably still get one for a nice handy 2gun rifle or for LARPing at the range and scaring away boomers

Anyone think the 5.56 NR will make it here before the ban?

Won't really matter. Since retailers are forced to keep records, they're gonna know you had/have one, once they start probing retailers for their sales records. Unless of course you buy used from someone who isn't in Quebec, and never had it registered. Otherwise, you're SOL.

Can't you just claim you sold it?

That's the kicker. When you make private sales now, you're legally supposed to confirm the PAL of the buyer. You don't need to tell the RCMP what you're selling them, but you're supposed to make that call.

If they come back and ask you when you made that call to validate the PAL of the buyer (they keep records of it) and you can't provide it, it makes it look like you sold an NR without following proper procedure, subjecting you to what ever penalty is on the books for doing so.

So if they ask you when you sold it, and they can't match up a date/time when you called to verify the PAL of the buyer, you're again, SOL.

The LIEberals have really covered all their bases here.

No they haven't. I've sold a bunch of NR rifles since the confirming PAL BS came into effect - I have no idea what was sold to who, as I don't have to keep records of that. If they want to know where my rifles went they'll have to figure it out.

Is there a link where a PAL can be checked / validated or can it only be done by a phone call?
