I'm taking a black badge course soon, and I need some advise on a few things
1) what type of holster do I bring, I was told not to bring an IPSC rig (is this correct)
2) will I need to bring several clips?
3) how many rounds should I be bringing?

*yes I have e-mailed my instructor these very questions, however I have some time today to go shopping, so just incase he can't respond before I leave, I thought you seasoned pros can give me the skinny
Thanks for your help

For a holster and mag holder's I would go with a cheaper Kydex type, Uncle Mike's works good depending on your gun. You can always upgrade later. But get a good belt such as a CR.

You should have at least 4 magazines (not clips), but more is always better (you'll have to do less charging of them between exercizes).

Bring at least 500-600 rounds of ammo. You will go through most of it.

Good luck and have fun.

if you already have a rig bring it. i am presuming someone is suggesting not to use a "race Rig." the reason being is that with everything else going on you don't have to worry about making sure your gun is locked into the holster. if you are using a revolover with moon clips then you want at least 6 full moon clips. 7 or 8 is better. if you are using a semi automatic pistol then you want at least 4 magazines. again 5 would be better. you mainly need this for the mini match at the end of the course.

i hope that helps.

Your answer has already been given, I just wanted to welcome you to the best damn sport out there. It's the most fun you can have with your clothes on and sometimes off depending who designs the course of fire. :D

DO put your money into a Quality belt it will be worth it...Uncle Mikes Kydex is a good choice as well as the fobus line... enjoy yourself and welcome to the family

1) what type of holster do I bring, I was told not to bring an IPSC rig (is this correct) No it is not correct. This is IPSC of course your IPSC rig is good to go.

2) will I need to bring several clips? "Clips" ZERO:)....but I would suggest at least 4 magazines and mag holders....

3) how many rounds should I be bringing? I have seen people do it in 400 rounds and 800 rounds........anywhere in between should be good. That said normally the range events are over a few days so you need not bring all the ammo at once.

rig

Thanks for all the great advise.

Heres what has taken place;

Took a drive over to DOUBLE TAP SPORTS and sat down with the owner.
Great guy, lots of knowledge and obviously a ton of experience, He showed me a couple of holsters, gave me a few options, but I eventually settled on a ghost holster with a cr belt, along with mag holders and some extra clips. along with a 1000 rounds of ammo.

I think I'm physically ready for this course, wish me luck:rockOn:

Sounds like you got good advice. I'm probably looking at a CR belt myself in the near future. Recommended by Frank K., instructor at the course I attended last week. It was a lot of fun!

Not that it makes much difference or to be anal about this but your "clip" is more properly referred to as a "charger". Was for the Lee Enfield anyway.

Does it really matter other than to refer to a mag, as a mag, Appears to be a badge of honour for those who have been around firearms for more than two weeks to point the difference out to those with less experience.

Take Care

I posted it more for the picture comparison and not so much for the insult at the bottom. Yes it does matter to me if it's called a mag, just like it matters to me if someone calls a gun a weapon, in my opinion it's wrong.

On a second subject how many more sleeps to the BC IDPA Provincials? I hope we can get some of the shooters you shot with at ours to drive / fly out to yours.

Later

Steve

Welcome aboard! I see they have given you quite a beating on the whole "clip vs. magazine" thing. This is to save you the embarrasment of having to endure the official "Turbo-wedgie" rule we have for incorrect terminology.
IPSC shooters are even worse nerds than computer guys.

Have fun and be safe. Nothing else really matters.
