PCC Red Dot Choice

It’s what I run and many others I shoot with, never had anyone complain about malfunctions including while using in the rain.

Hows the field of view? Is it quick to pick up?

I`m also curious about the reticle. I have a 508 with the multi reticle system and it is perfect for my shotgun. The outer ring makes the dot fast to pick up and it aligns with the spread of a shotgun pretty well I find. The fine centre dot is awesome where accuracy is required (ie on a slug stage).

I also have another Holsun optic I took on a trade (not sure on the model), it has a ^ instead of a centre dot and the outer ring is huge (too big for my liking) to the point that it is basically around the outer edge of the window and not really useful.

So what is the reticle on the 510C like? Does it sound more like the 508 or the other optic?

Have you considered the Holosun HE530 (30mm) series for FOV? Think it costs less than the MRO and has the circle dot.

Yes, it does look like a good fit.

I have kinda discounted the MRO, another poster said that it had sub par battery life with the green dot and the Holosun seems to offer more features for less cost.

Sig Romeo 5 is on for $169 @ cabelas. This is a great bang for your buck optic.

Notice that it is only comes with the HIGH mount from Cabelas...

So you'll have a 'chin weld' unless you are running the MagPul TD stock with interchangeable cheek risers to accommodate for various sighting options...

Cheers

Jay you might be thinking of a Ruger PC9.
The OP owns a FX9 :p

True, tho personal preference. I would have this on a 1.93 mount in this scenario. With the savings had a human could find a low T1 footprint mount to slap under the romeo5 if wanting to achieve a certain cheek wield.

I'm sure i will get flamed for this but I tried a cheap Feyachi V30 for an old 22 I had laying around I now own 4 of them. Have one on a shotgun that has seen more than a few rounds with no problem.

Both risers is worth the extra for me.

If I had to only choose one it wouldn't be the high riser. My guess is that the low riser will be the better fit for my application (I may be wrong on that which is why I plan to try both) and the other advantage is that the low riser has less height over bore.

Take a look at these guys. I got a 507c and pic mount for my Beretta 1301, they shipped the next day (I ordered at 2 am) and comms were excellent.

They have a pretty good selection too.

I have purchased from SRS before and found them very professional.

I am still intrigued by the 510C but they dont have stock (no one does it seems).

Blackbox got a Holosun restock yesterday but no 510Cs.

Trying to decide what direction I want to go with my PCC optic (FX9).

I have a few red dots (TRS-25 / Holosun 508 etc etc) which I plan to try to see if any feel "right" but as this will be competition / gamer rig I want something quite open with a good field of view and easy to pick up dot. Ideally the dot would be a fine centre dot for precision where required and some sort of larger out ring for speed on the closer stuff (the only optics on my list with this type of reticle are the Holosuns)

I have looked around and narrowed it down to the following (note: I prefer green dots over red but either will work):

1) Holosun 510C.

This is an open reflex type sight and as such should offer easy viewing / good field of view. It has the multi reticle system (fine point which is useful for when accuracy is required at distance and larger 32MOA outer ring for fast / easy pickup on closer targets - best of both worlds). I dont like my optics crazy high so this looks about right for me. Price seems decent and it is offered with a green reticle. Ticks a lot of boxes. Only downsides I can find are that as an open reflex type it may struggle in wet rainy conditions and right now they aint in stock anywhere.

2) Trijicon MRO.

Closed emitter type red dot so no issues with rain etc. Probably one of the best or the best field of view for this style of optic. Available with green dot. Downsides - its pricy, its only available with a 2MOA red dot which is fine for precision at distance but may be slower to pick up than some other offerings at the closer distances where the bulk of the targets are.

3) SIG Romeo MAX XL with 6MOA dot & Scalarworks mount.

This is an open reflex type optic so would suffer from the same weaknesses as the Holosun (ie rain may be an issue). Field of view is MASSIVE so combined with the 6MOA dot should be easy to pick up / get on target for the closer stuff. Downsides are its pricy (particularly with a separate mount) / hard to find / only offered with a red dot and the 6MOA may be on the large side for any sort of precision at distance (I know a PCC wont be reaching out to crazy distances but I have never tried a dot this big so dont know what that would look like).

4) Holosun HS512C

This is basically the same optic as the 510C except it is closed so no issues with moisture. Downsides are no green reticle option (boo!) and being closed it will probably be a little slower to pick up than the open type 510C.

Thoughts? I am open to suggestions for any good options I have overlooked.

I've got 3 rimfire semi-autos for fun rigs and have gone holosun 507c or 407c on the rail mount to get them lower than the those larger squares you're talking about, if it's stocked for iron sights you will want to be as slow as possible if receiver mounting or look at the base plates for the rear sight slot on ruger pc9's and 507c type. But receiver mount with the traditional stock you will want lowest possible. The adjustable stock non-iron sight models will be able to mount optics higher as the cheek piece is higher.

I just picked up a 510C (green) from someone on the EE and it arrived yesterday, seems like a great option - cant wait to try it but its currently -27 here!
