Decock Garand

well...I never knew a M1 could be decocked with out dryfiring...

I dont think Canada ever used the Garand in service?....we went right from the No4Mk1 to the C1....No?

John just remember, some of us used the FN C1A1 when we were first in the Canadian Army, therefore we never had formal training on the M1 rifle.

If you want REAL TERROR, release the bolt on an AG42B That bolt slams home with REAL authority!

Oh, a funny one for you, Many years ago, I bought my first Lewis Gun de-act from "Ye Olde Hunter" in Alexandria Virginia. Got talking to the salesman and they had one of those Steyr Solothurn 20mm anti tank rifles on the sales floor. He said some IDIOT wanted to see how strong the return spring was, so he cranked the bolt back (rack and pinion), stuck his finger in the ejection port, and pulled the trigger! I think you can guess what happened next.

That thing scared the sh*t out of me!

I think it could possibly take the finger off. At least it would certainly smash some bone.

The owner told me he sent the bolt through his wall when it went flying during a cleaning takedown.

A pretty cool rifle, though I'm not a big fan of direct-impingement gas systems.

Klunk, actually Canada received 8,100 M1 Garand rifles by lend lease during the second world war. About 10 years ago I was shooting with a gentleman who was an RCAF Air policeman during the '50's stationed in France defending Canadian airfields. They had Garands but no ammunition for them.
