Beauty rifle. I have the same one. I'm getting excellent accuracy out of factory Hornady 200gr SP loads. And they are devastating on deer. I switched from an IER scope to a 1-4x receiver mounted, which is easier on my eyes and gives me better FOV, as well as improved accuracy - 50m target attached. Enjoy!

I'm a fan of the 35s. Thanks for sharing the load/chronograph/groups.

I hear you on the atrocious trigger pull and groups.

I have a Rem 700 in 350 RM, the trigger makes shooting well possible, the recoil is a negative.

Always wanted a 358win. Have had dies on the shelf for a few years now. Haven't seen a single lefty 358 on the EE though, and I haven't been able to afford a custom build.

OP do you know what the minimum velocity for proper expansion is on that 250 Hornady, and aproximately what range that would get you?

Hornady specifies 2300 - 2800 fps muzzle speed range for .358 250gr SP haven't tried on game yet RN should expand better at lower impact speeds. 35 caliber Hornady 250gr RN, Woodleigh 310gr, Barnes X 250gr, Speer 250gr Grand Slam & Swift A-Frame 250gr on Deer, Moose & Elk at close to intermediate ranges all worked from not too bad to excellent.

200 gr. Remington Core Lokt. Mostly intact one frontal shot on moose, 312 yards.Took heart, over 1m of penetration. Other two, quartering shots, 100 yd, whitetail, found under hide, both. BLC-2 and WLR primer. These don't feed well in the lever gun. Wildly varying performance, depending on range.

Very interesting. I mostly used 225 gr bullets in mine. - dan

I always wondered why the 358 never really took off in the BLR. I think it would be the perfect combination of lever gun, somewhat flat shooting and hard hitting. I have only seen the odd one on a shelf at my local gun store and hardly ever on the EE.

the reason 358 win did not take off is....... its a slow round

it does the job very well, but if you compare it 308 (or any other round) side by side on paper it is slow

I have a 35 Whelen it also did not take off very well, but it is a fun round to shoot .... Very mild to F*** that kicks

Try some campro 358 bullets in your 358 win (look for data, its out there)(or cast pistol rounds) nice paper punch rounds to Hunting loads
