So is the MRA Renegade and Troy PAR it?

Once this very bad legislation is passed is the MRA Renegade and Troy PAR about all that's left for black rifles?

Not a pessimist. Just looking to what is the next gimped rifle to own. At least until PP replaces JT.

They'll be gone soon too, after all they use box magazines in common with the other evil black rifles. And, the same military grade calibre(s)!

I just picked up a PAR .308 to go along with my shorty PAR predator defense ATV gun in .300 Blk as a form of "insurance" should C21 and its amendment actually come to pass. I realized that aside from my APC 308 and Cadex Guardian "Lite" (which is anything but lightweight), I had no .308 platform. The PAR 308 remedies that in a way which is almost acceptable to me. Almost. but not quite...

BCL Bison looks nice. Reviews appear positive.

I don't consider any conventional bolt-action rifle to be a "black rifle". The PAR and Renegade are manually-operated, but otherwise appear to be AR15 style firearms. Close, but no cigar for the Bison, Bronco, et-al....

Are you going to get or build a Maverick in Creedmore or .308?

I slapped down a couple of grand and got myself a fully assembled Maverick, with about a grand worth of the scariest looking attachments money can buy.

I can take it hunting, and make liberals rage when I post pics of it. It's a win win I guess, given the circumstances. I was holding out on the MRA straight pulls, but screw it. I have all this ammo for rifles I won't be able to shoot for much longer. Mind as well put them to good use with another gun purchase to support our firearms dealers.

The Sig Cross is quite scary and tactical looking for a bolt-action rifle.

You could arguably put it in same category as the above mentioned guns.

Absolutely! That's exactly how I looked at the PAR 308, although for hunting I have a perfectly suitable Howa 1500 in .308 that does exactly what I need it to out to 300m (my personal limit). I don't foresee hunting with the PAR (too heavy and bulky), but for a range toy it will be just fine. I may even throw on a shorter barrel for shlts and giggles, since anything over 12" will work with the PAR's pump Handguard. Time will tell...

Bonus points for the big ole .308 fireball this will result in :)

Here's the PAR 308, which arrived today. I've added a few accessories along with the Trijicon 1-8x Accupower LPVO, but nothing too crazy. I wanted a folding buttstock for storage/casing purposes, so I added a LAW Tactical folding adapter that I happened to have sitting unused on an OIC 2020 prohib. I couldn't stand the sight of that hideous "Battle Axe" Buttstock that the Troy PAR 308 ships with, so that got swapped out for the Magpul unit on that same prohib. I also added a Trigger Tech Trigger Pack that was sitting unused and swapped some glass around to free up the Trijicon LPVO. I added an Ergo Pistol Grip and a Magpul Vertical Fore-Grip for enhanced ergonomics just the way that I like 'em.

Now that I see it first-hand, I doubt that I will bother to sink the money into a shorter barrel. The 16" tube that the rifle ships with is pretty compact as it is, without unduly compromising the rifle's ballistic performance. Besides which, there are reports of outstanding accuracy with the stock Troy Industries 1-11,25" twist Barrels, so I want to check out those claims before I #### around with anything major like the Barrel.

I guess they better start tooling up to make more Maverick receivers and rifles.

Although to be honest I really think more people are going to just say "screw it, I'm still using my WK-180"

Like you, I expect that most folks who wander afield to do their shooting/hunting will simply continue to use their established semi-auto rifles, particularly in the provinces and territory that have signalled their opposition to the successive Lieberal gun grabs of late. For folks like me who shoot on a flat range however, that luxury does not necessarily exist. I know that my club will not allow any prohib firearms to be discharged on club property out of fear that it could result in a shutdown of the range by the CFO. Regardless of whether I happen to agree or not, that is a rule I must adhere to in order to use the facilities. Being confined to a wheelchair, I don't really have a choice, since shooting in the woods is not a viable option for me...

Thanks for the feedback guys. Much appreciated. Will look at putting a MRA Renegade together and perhaps a Troy PAR too in the near future. Probably wait until C-21 is passed so I don't waste any more money by them adding these to the list in another amendment.

I wonder how much of a WK180 could port over to a Renegade?

Cheers

I think this is wise. BTW, if you don't know, the Troy PAR have a fluted chamber to aid with extraction as the action rod is rather lightly built and has been known to break. My buddy has one in .223, and does not reload; I got some brass from him, and with the ridges on the brass, they were so hard to resize that I ended up scrapping the brass. Since all the BS with the ARs, I no longer reload .223. Personally, I would avoid the PAR, but suit yourself.

I never thought that the day would come where I'd be remotely happy that I never sold my MRA Renegade. That straight pull system is just not my thing after enjoying some cool semis. Like Bartok, I only shoot at a CFO approved range, and have no other recourse other than shoot what I am legally allowed. I have tried the Bison and surprisingly like the Renegade more, which is surprising given how lukewarm I am on it as it is. It will be the only rifle I have that can shoot whatever 5.56 I have left, if these amendments and C21 get passed.

Is the PAR 308 chamber fluted? I was hoping it was just the 223 and 300BO.

I am not sure, and information on the internet is contradictory. Some sources say that the 308 chanmber is fluted, others say not. I tried to get a look at the chamber walls of my own PAR 308, but do not own a borescope and lacked sufficient light even with a flashlight. I won't be able to tell for certain until I live fire the rifle on the next warm Winter's day.

Even those who reported a fluted chamber stated that the striations from the fluting in no way negatively affected the ability of the casings to be reloaded, so any concern about that may be misplaced.

I seem to recall they moved away from the fluted barrels at some point.
Troy has some relatively small issues with these guns that you would think they would have addressed by now but for some reason they seem uninterested into making the PAR bombproof.

People have reported problems with the slide release button breaking and also wear on the connection between the action rod and where it connects with the bolt.
