Anybody know anything about these? All I can find is a poorly-done video and a poorly-answered (rimfire central) thread.

The magazine from a Savage Arms Mark II fits a Lakefield Mossberg Mark III all right, but (reliable) feeding is another thing altogether.

Does the (correct) magazine for a Lakefield Mossberg Mark III have actual feed lips, maybe?

I have one, but the Mark II and Mark III have different magazines, and are not interchangable. The Mark II's is a banana, whereas the III's is straight. New ones made by Savage will fit the Lakefield Mossberg.
My experience is as the magazines age, you will only be able to load 8 rounds if you want them to feed reliably. Keep the action clean, use high velocity ammo, and these are fun fairly accurate rifles!!

BTW - does anyone know what years these were branded as "Lakefield Mossberg"?

Thank you for your reply. My problem is that I don't have any MKIII magazine, just new-production MKII magazines that won't feed the MKIII properly.

Have you got a newer MKII magazine (whether it be a 20005, 90005, 90007, or 90008) to compare to your original MKIII magazine?

What I'm wondering is whether or not a MKIII magazine's 'lips' have got more height and/or bend in them, compared to a MKII magazine (that would serve to guide cartridges into the chamber), or whether it's something else.

Mine has the banana mag from a savage MK 2 and it works just fine. Does a time have a parts diagram for it though?

This particular MKIII readily accepts the (MKII) 20005, 90005, 90007, and 90008, but it won't accept the (64 series) 30005 at all. The rifle seems to have multiple issues (the magazine only being one of them); it does seems to feed better when you don't charge the magazine fully, it does seem to run better when you slap the trigger, and it does seem to need to be kept very clean.

Are MKII magazines supposed to be routinely disassembled (e.g.: for cleaning)?

Just so you don’t think you’re maybe crazy, you’re right. I seen a lakefield mkiii semiautomatic rifle years ago with a fold down forend. It took a rear locking , banana shaped magazine that looked the same as a lakefield/savage mkii magazine. The ten round straight mag from the 64 models locks on the front, and is totally different. Maybe they made both styles, but I would assume a mkii magazine should fit.

Sorry I’m no help with the feeding issue.

I have a Mk III in the garage and it does use the curved magazine as well. It looks like a Mk II magazine but I don’t have anything to compare it to.

Oops, I didn’t realize the thread was two years old.
