Hi, I looked through 8 pages here, to see if there was a 'Military' specific forum. Did not see one.

My Buddy wants to 'Trade' me this. I don't know much about these / Military stuff/items, so..? What's it worth - in trade?
He says it's a 'Ceremonial' / Parade one, that it's rare, yada yada - Is it worth it? I have seen some, not many, mostly in the USA, & not one the same / shiney as this one.
Does this have appeal here?
Thanx!

Looks like a navy 3"/50. Just sold a case this weekend for 75.00.
The projectile also looks to be a made up one for parade use. Is it aluminum?

All in all an interesting case if you like navy but no huge amount of value.

I am an ammunition technician. Send me some photos of the cartridge case base and a better angle on the case mouth.

The case itself is worth between $50 and $150, if it's in collector grade shape. The projectile is not even close to a 3" naval anything and may even detract from the value, depending on how the projectile is fixed to the ctge case.

I should note that if it is canadian military, it's been stolen.

or up the butt? ; )

it's the same as the few I seen online via a Google search, Described as: WWII Era U.S Navy Gun 3 Inch / 50 Caliber Dual Purpose.
This one has a 81' or 1981 & 50 CAL' stamped on the back. Letters & #'s in the primer area, a K or X42- maybe a NO8 ?

But, the thing is, I don't really collect this stuff, & it has a couple 'dents' in it, apparently from tipping over he says lol while on display.{old fella}
If the consensus is it's worth $100 max, then with the dents, it's probably not even worth that / what he thinks & wants.
However, If I trade him, I would be into it for less though, as it still seems kind of interesting, esp. with the Chrome 'projectile'.

Interesting to have but absolutely no value with those huge dents in the case neck.

Back in the ‘80s it was common practice to work on your own “projects” called “rabbits” and bring them home in your lunch kit if it fit. I once saw a ship yard worker with a home made lunch box that had to be 18 inches long with rabbit silhouettes stenciled on it.

I grew up in Regina, there was a house in my neighbourhood where someone had made a fence with (I assume) brass artillery cases stuck mouth down in a concrete base. IIRC roughly 4" dia. x 30" tall. No idea of where or how the guy got them. Maybe from a scrap metal dealer?

saying some thing is stolen is totally BS ,as the military sells its scrap brass to the commercial market, and has done so as far back as WWI. anyone wanting current brass can buy it on the crown assets website.

Just like for years, everyone's says NO IVI, it's Stolen! bla bla bla..when everyone I know has some, every gun show sells, many retail stores have sold it, & several people have purchased it legitimately. There's always one know it all, who's real fun at parties, but really, no one gaf what they're yapping. Finally understand what the IGNORE function is for.

I've seen buckets of empty 25 mm cases and links for sale at guns shows and bought a couple. Does that make me and the seller guilty of possession of stolen property?
