My son got a nice wt earlier , I kept looking for a nice one
A few days earlier I Walked in on a cow elk In the bush one day , about a mile from my truck, that was a 4 hr bush walk , I was happy then , only had a bull tag though situation normal lol
But today last day at about 10:30 happened on this feller , happy now possibly biggest deer so far

That's a hog man , congratulations, some hunters hunt a lifetime & never see a buck that impressive

Got this guy at the end of the first day of my Alberta trip in November. The photos don't really capture the mass of the antlers but the one circumference on his right side is just shy of 7" and total gross was 164"! Whitetail was supposed to just be an add on tag for my mule deer draw, but when a buck like this peeks his head out, you listen to your hunter host and lean into him. I hit him three times at 330 yards with my cousin's 28 Nosler and 162 ELD-X Hornady Precision Hunter factory ammo (I know...factory ammo...ewww!!!)

Now to decide on a pose for the shoulder mount that I didn't budget for!

Magnificent! Congrats!

Some outstanding deer in this thread, congrats to all!

Watched this guy step out of the bush around 400 yards away...with me clutching my .45-70. :(

He jogged straight up to me, stopped when I bleated, and dropped in his tracks at the shot...at about 60 yards. :)

Exciting when they come towards you, eh?

Definitely! It's even better when you happen to be looking in the right direction and see them come out of the woods and into full view; usually I notice them when they are already in the open, right there, because I was looking in the wrong direction at the moment when they step out. But in this case I happened to be scanning in that direction through my binoculars, and he just stepped right out in the centre of my field of view; the reaction is almost like getting an electrical shock. :)

That was a fatal mistake. Nice deer and very nice rifle!

Thanks! It's an original JM-marked SBL; I've had it since just after they were introduced; it was one of those great used-gun deals you get from recoil-shy folks who bought something "cool", fired 2 or 3 shots and then quickly made a change in their plans. :)

At the time, I bought it only because it was a stupendously smoking-hot deal. I thought that a stainless levergun was about the stupidest thing imaginable and expected to play with it a little and then quickly flip it before anyone saw me using it; I seem to recall that the Rem/Marlin thing was in its infancy then, and expected this JM gun to appreciate in value. That was something like 15 years ago, and this particular rifle is now one of my all-time favourites and is going nowhere. :)

The palmation is crazy. 6 ⅞" around that one spot.

I could see that he was cool but couldn't see how cool until he was down. He's not a classic 5x5, but I guarantee that most people would walk past a clean typical mount to look at one with some character.

Amen brother!

Score isn't important, character and age-factor matter. When you're talking antlers.

200 yard shot with the 8x57 180gr barnes TSX @2780 fps. Dropped on the spot. I believe this buck to be a hybrid Mule/Whitetail. Our local area is known to produce these hybrids with mule deer and whitetails living in the same area. Whitetail features include the tail and ears, the hide color is a blend of mule deer/whitetail, forked mule deer style antlers.

What does the tail look like, WT or MD? OH! Missed the first part about the tail!
I go by the tail all the time when spotting a deer or putting a tag on a deer!
As far as the antlers go, I would have seen a white tail not mule deer as only one tine is forked, the other looks like a normal white tail to me.

Found this roadside on highway 13 in SK. Shame. Would have been a nice shooter for someone. And yes I paid the roadkill fee.IMG-20221116-WA0000.jpg

Well - I had the good fortune to fill my deer tag on the first day of muzzleloader season, which is unusual in this neck of the woods. I was using the 300 gr Hornady SST sabots and 100 gr equiv of Pyrodex pills. Shot was a complete pass through the boiler room at 75 yards, essentially a bang flop. While I was unable to find the bullet, it appeared to pass through the deer without any deformation, exit hole was a neat 45 cal circle. Anybody have similar results? I certainly cant complain about the outcome, just curious about these bullets.

Congrats on filling your tag, I'm still working on mine, hopefully I can seal the deal tomorrow. As far as the bullet goes, I have used the sst's for quite a few years and have had pretty good performance from them. I shoot a savage 10ml II smokeless muzzle loader, and have used the 300 gr sst's for a while but dropped down to 250gr a few years back. Always did a lot of damage and had clean kills if I did my part. Not sure why yours wouldn't have expanded.
