Hi all - Interested in your opinions on which hunting rifles have the best (most solid and reliable) detachable magazine designs. If it makes a difference to your comments, let's say we're limiting the field to common (and non-magnum) hunting cartridges in the 30-06 and 308Win families.

Thanks in advance...

I have used the Kwik Klip conversions on Remington 700's and for hunting on a hunting rifle they work very well and would be my choice but on a tactical style rifle they are not big and clunky enough for many shooters.

I know guys love to hate them due to being "plastic" but tikla mags have never failed me. They insert easily, feed very well, have never jammed on me, and fall freely when prompted. I also find them very durable even in extreme cold.

I want to convert a 700 with bdl bottom metal. Do they make them in 223? I couldn’t find any

I always thought the BLR81 mag worked very well.

I have a Kwik Klip here for a 700 long action if anyone is interested. PM for discussion.

I have a Tikka T3 in 204R and I’ve worn out 2 of the factory mags. The leading edges of the lips that hold the cartridge the correct height wore down causing the front of the cartridge to tilt up which causes the rear of the cartridge to tilt down and then the bolt doesn’t pick it up. Something like that anyway, it’s been a few years since that happened. Solved the problem with a metal one made in Aus by watersrifleman.com

But your question about mags, I’ve got a SavageHunter with a mostly metal mag that’s worked flawlessly for me. And my Tikka M695 mag is metal as well, had to get it adjusted when it was new cuz the bolt would slide over the brass. The dealer adjusted the lips on the mag and it’s worked for many thousand rounds since then.

Correct! Tikka factory lite magazines are hot F@cking garbage.
They work just fine for someone who shoots a couple of boxes per year, but as soon as you start shooting rounds in the triple digits you can have problems with feed lip wear.
I have personally worn out two Tikka magazines both in .223. One with close to 600rds and the other about 400.
100$ per mag is highway robbery so I fixed my second one in the picture with a piece of sheet metal.

As far as I understand it Kangaroo hunters in Australia were wearing out multiple Tikka mags per season with high volume shooting and the Waters magazine was the solution as well as modified magazines with sheet metal inserts like the one I did.
Great rifles...dogsh!t magazines for anyone who actually puts some rounds downrange.
Thank goodness for the plethora of chassis’ and aftermarket stocks/ bottom metals that accommodate the wonderful AICS pattern magazines.
