Forgive me if this has been asked. But where in the hell has all the 303 ammo gone?I need a box of hunting ammo, everywhere is sold out .Did the Government overreach program stop imports?Dave

As you know, there is an absence of obsolete, obscure, or otherwise less-contemporary chamberings in the supply chain (such as .17 Mach 2, .303 British, .32 Special, 300 Savage, and .410) at the exact same time that it has a wide variety of current, common, and very popular chamberings (such as .22LR, .223 Remington, 243 Winchester, .308 Winchester, and 12 gauge).

Think about it. If your import-ban theory had any basis in reality, do you think it would be applied only to obsolete, obscure, or otherwise less-contemporary chamberings?

The all time high demand by US shooters for .303 brit ammunition in the past 2 years , plus manufacturers scaling back to provide war time ammunition and service the trendy calibers, has driven the price up to insane amounts. I saw recently on a US retail site, boxes of 180gr federal powershok going for over 80 dollars..... per box of 20. Not sure if that is still the case but none of the retailers I deal with in Canada have any .303 ammo of any type except the odd box of remington corelokt.
I bought a case of federal powershock, 10 boxes from reliable of 180gr 4 or 5 years ago and still have more than 1/2 that left and then I have enough components, powder and primers to reload another 500 rounds in 180gr so i'm well stocked as far as hunting ammo is concerned.

Wendell, current times have me paranoid, your correct thank you.Just cause Im paranoid doesnt mean theyre not after my guns.D

I've never worked in an ammunition plant, but I understand printing presses and prepress. When there are small runs or harder set ups and also main production runs, it is much less trouble to run the press for another 10,000 sheets than to stop and do all the clean up, all the set up, all the make-ready, and then run off a batch. In printing the pressman controls the machine. A one-colour sheet is probably much less demanding than all the nudges and adjustments to run off a four-colour job.

And we know ammunition consumers are always forgiving and tolerant of product variations. Right? No one has ever publicly criticized their ammunition producer. Ever?

The local Canadian Tire has always been my source of 303 British hunting ammo. They usually stock one weight grain (180 gr) and sometimes two different brands - Generally Winchester Power Point and Remington Cor-Lokt. Both are nothing special but still decent reliable offerings suitable for taking game up to and including Moose at reasonable ranges.

Don't expect prices to be cheap. 2 to 2 1/2 bucks a round would be typical. Sadly 303 is slowly becoming obsolete. My advice is to buy several boxes while you still can. You might have to go to a few Canadian Tire stores to do that.

I am lucky I still have 303 with saber tips on them . I might find it all but my retarded brother as a joke years ago put different ammo in different boxs. So once in a while find ammo I never thought I had.

My Dad has been looking for 303 British for ages it seems & the only #### we could find locally (Southern Nova Scotia) are surplus target rounds. My Dad hated the price for 303 British before the shortage (we were paying $1.40 per round for S&B) & he has zero interest in spending a dollar more. At least he keeps all his brass, I've been looking for someone locally who can reload them for him.

Six days after this was posted here, they're still showing fifteen boxes in stock. <https://www.eaglefirearms.ca/sellier-bello-303-british-180gr-sp-331332.html>

To me, it just goes to show that 99.999% of the (I-need-303-so-badly-I'll-do-anything) talkers are just that - talkers.

It's not about the nail.

Good luck with that, nobody is going to reload for him unless they know him and still maybe not. There is a lot of issues with liability if anything were to go wrong.

Probably but I think he'd rather take the risk especially when he saw folks selling boxes of S&B for $100 a box on ####### after saying $57 a box was too much. If it blew up it would be the answer of my Mom's prayers as she hates his Lee Enfield (She thinks it's ugly, she likes my T97 more as she thinks it's pretty).

The issue with having someone reload for you (assuming you find someone willing to) is components have gone up in price a lot as well if you can even find the stuff you’re looking for.

Anything that can be used in a 10-shot repeating military style rifle is being surrepticiously banned through secret import restrictions.

Yeah right. Readjust your tin foil hat.

ffs. Read post # 3 or go to Canadian Tire like the rest of us.

As far as hunting ammo, eagle firearms might one of the only ones. I don't shoot mine that often but I found reloading for it was still worth it. Got tired of hunting down ammo and overpaying for it anyways.

I started with the Lee 50th anniversary package. You can get it on sale for ~$200. Powder & Primers are a little hard to find but once you find them youre good for a few hundred rounds. You also gain the freedom to buy a 8mm mauser or something without having to worry about ammo as much.

Out of stock now/

Enjoy your next closest Gun Show and look for a used basic set of Lee Reloading Dies, a few Bullets, Powder and perhaps 100 Primers then you can assemble your own Ammo at home at a very reasonable price.

Nope the Bullets don't have to be the XXlP or whatever, ordinary 150 Grains even powder coated cast will do but as always I recommend to purchase only sealed Cans of Powder.

Good Luck & Cheers
