Best detachable magazine designs?

As above the CZ527 mags are awesome, the 557 series are of good build quality as well. The AICS pattern makes using multiple rifles with the same pattern mags a plus. Checkout the Bergara rifles, heck I would even consider a SIG Cross if your in the market. These rifles are LIGHT.

I have used the Kwik Klip conversions on Remington 700's and for hunting on a hunting rifle they work very well and would be my choice but on a tactical style rifle they are not big and clunky enough for many shooters.

I tried a Kwik Klip on a Bighorn, didn’t work. Maybe they aren’t compatible with Bighorns I’m not sure.
The problem was when a loaded mag was inserted, the cartridges pushed against the bottom of the bolt. The mag would hang down instead of remaining flush. If I worked the bolt too quickly it would jump over a round and not feed.

Never tried with a regular R700 action but the mag not sitting flush would drive me crazy.

Hawkins hunter bottom metals and mags are a thing of beauty. If your running a Rem 700 foot print action i would check them out.

Not a bolt gun...but I'm impressed with the overkill design of the Benelli R1 mags, lock up front and back, steel body, steel divider for the cartridges, rest is polymer, flush fit, they do not move at all when locked in, completely solid.
Same price as the Tikka plastic mags which doesn't add up lol.
527 mags I like as well, old school all stamped steel, but I do have to file/sand the inner edges of the lips as they are always sharp and scratch the #### out of the brass.

Hmm. Interesting that I've had multiple misfeeds and jams with my CZ 527 mags. My only complaint with my CZ 527 is the mags but then I hate detachable mags for a hunting rifle so maybe I'm just biased.

I can't comment on the best but I can tell you a couple of the worst. Howa Mini action. The mag release is probably the worst design I've ever seen. Rem 788 is also up there.

I know guys love to hate them due to being "plastic" but tikla mags have never failed me. They insert easily, feed very well, have never jammed on me, and fall freely when prompted. I also find them very durable even in extreme cold.

when i worked in retail that was the most lost item we were selling ...

I just can't think of another option outside of aics/aw magazines where thousands of people are shooting 200+ rounds in weekend comps all across the USA and Canada year round. You'll have issues running the really short dasher cartridges but otherwise they are the standard.

Really liked the Browning A Bolt magazines, as they could not fall out and get lost, and you could top up the magazine without taking it out of the rifle.
The Browning X Bolt magazines have been working fine for me so far, but cannot top up without taking out of the rifle.

Really like the Sako 85 magazines so far, and appreciate that they fixed the dropped magazine issue they were experiencing on the 75's.

My pre-81 BLR magazines have been working well for many years; I just have to be careful with the one, as it needs to be seated properly each time or it will drop out. Suspect the catch tab is worn a bit, as inspecting it visually doesn't appear any different from the other magazine. Luckily it has only come out twice during recoil, once at the bench, and once in the field where it landed on the hay bale I was shooting off of, so wasn't lost and noticed as soon as I cycled the action after the initial shot on the elk. Have just been more diligent when using it since to ensure that it is seated properly, and no more issues.

Never had any issues with my Winchester Model 88 magazines.

Hard to beat the Ruger 10/22 magazines!

Only issue I have really had with a detachable magazine is the ones that came with the Rem 700 DM for SA (358 Win). They will not stack or feed properly. Gunsmith says they are a common problem. Changing it out for BDL bottom metal and magazine box.

You can’t change a rem 700 from factory dbm to a floor plate or adl, the feed lips are gone.

Luckily the action was not a factory DM, so it does have the feed rails needed for the BDL floor plate and mag box. (Should have clarified in above post)
Not sure who the gunsmith who assembled the rifle was, but it will function properly by the time Greg gets done with it at Rocky Mountain Rifles.

Hi all - Interested in your opinions on which hunting rifles have the best (most solid and reliable) detachable magazine designs. If it makes a difference to your comments, let's say we're limiting the field to common (and non-magnum) hunting cartridges in the 30-06 and 308Win families.

Thanks in advance...

Browning A-bolt II.
Hands down imo.

Sig Sauer 202 rifles are very good
