View attachment 641696View attachment 641695View attachment 641694So today I seen a beautiful win mod 70 , new production chambered in 7 RM.
Oh, it has a beautiful Maple stock.

Anyway, I could not stop myself from buying it.
So I made a payment with what cash I had on hand and will pick it up next week.

The dilemma?
The more I think about it , I’m not sure I want to hunt with it.
Unless maybe I use a synthetic stock for hunting.

I don’t really need to hunt with it as I have an extra Tikka 7 mm barrel that I was planning on installing.
Maybe just pack it away and leave it to the son.

Hunt with it! They're tougher than you think. Enjoy. Nothing wrong with honest wear and the stories behind it. I have a Browning tbolt limited edition with the gloss maple stock. It's seen more rain than I'd ever care to sit out in, and more brush than I'd care to bulldoze through again. All that said you wouldn't know it... It's still gorgeous. Enjoy it the way it was meant to be used. When the Maple stocks patina they look better. Like a damn fine wine, they get better with age. Cheers and congrats on your rifle! Put up a pic so we can see it.

Your sufferin from a form of "Buyers Remorse"...not so much the money, but rather "it's to pretty"to hunt with.
The sooner you realize its just a pig with lipstick you'll be out havin fun with your new Winchester.

Just out of curiosity. what would be your choice that's not a "pig with lipstick"?

Ya the more I think about it, It’s got to be used.
I’ve never owned a wood stocked rifle before, so I’m just enamoured right now … lol

It depends on how you treat your guns. If you set them down on rocks, use them as climbing sticks, throw them into the back seat or the back of a atv, or leave it to bang around in the bottom of a boat, then it's probably wiser to leave it.

But with a reasonable amount of care, respect and attention, there's no reason not to go hunting with a nicely stocked rifle. I have a couple of really nice rifles, and they're not safe queens.

Hunt with it for sure! I like the maple stocks alot! As said avove, look after it! Character marks show great memories!!! And 7mag to boot! Great choice:)

Hunt it, model 70’s are meant to see the field no matter how nice they are! What you really need to do is buy a model 70 extreme weather now for the really crappy days, and then you can always carry a Winchester. That’s words I live by, always carry a Winchester!

I once owned a beautiful wood stocked model 70 in .270 Win (wish I still did). That was one tough rifle, it spent many hard seasons on the wet coast after black tails and yes it did get some marks, but really only the first few hurt. The thing could still shoot single hole groups at 100 yards after it was less pretty. I would recommend glass bedding if you are in a wet climate and then go and enjoy..

I’ll use it. Just can’t seem to get away from the 7 mm , and that stock , wow , I couldn’t resist.

Think I might just get rid of all my 6.5 PRC stuff and go back to 7 rm

One reason I like used guns in good shape or sometimes used guns in used shape. I have several new guns I can't bring myself to shoot . Course if I had time to shoot more it would help too. I am clumsy also do to poor legs and trip and bump into things.

It would depend on how rough you are on a hunting rifle . Some rifles are gently carried , or used for still hunting ; while other rifles are thrashed and banged around . If you are the first type hunter , use it , if you fall into the second category , use the rifle as a back up . When hunting , I prefer a rifle that I can bang around without worrying about it .
