Well this was highly unexpected

Congrats! I know you've been waiting a while...

Hopefully their printer is working again.

I wasn't aware the liberals further expanded the list.

I try be more optimistic as of late, as opposed to being miserable which I have been to one extent or an other for the past half year with my unique circumstance.

There's is the rumour of an election this Spring as you know.

Well, I think you have much reason for optimism...you can see others who have been in your situation (and worse) who have had their PALs approved after interview. Just hold tight and be patient. Sounds like in most cases, the CFO is fairly reasonable with people's individual situations. I don't recall reading as of late anyone on this thread who has reported a denial. And this is with people who have been in all sorts of situations.

I don’t know how true that is.
I’m a first-time PAL/RPAL Ontario-based applicant. I mailed in my application on November 1st. According to IWS, it was received on November 4th
My credit card was charged on December 5th
On December 6th, IWS informed me that processing had commenced (I’m paraphrasing)
I checked IWS each day this week.
Just a few minutes ago my IWS status changed. It now informs me that my licence has been approved and I should contact them if it’s not received in the next two weeks.
This forum has been a tremendous source of information and support. Thanks, guys!

My application is following a similar path as yours, from a date perspective, however, I received an email from the CFO-ON on Friday saying that they cannot review my application until Central Processing uploads my photo. They asked me to call Central Processing to expedite the process. Sure, why not!

I could not get in touch with anyone on Friday, but will try again today to move this dog and pony show along.

Also, my email was signed MVC. Not sure if they swapped names, or they sit next to KAM. Lol ;)

I know I do have a decent chance to be approved, I've read people with worse in their history get approved, really glad were not like europe where too many speeding tickets will make ineligible for a license and a bunch of other minor nonesense, I rarely read of denials, but it's certainly possible, as of late it's more than a thousand a year.

In the Netherlands for instance they have a questionnaire where the ask things like "do you wash your hands?".

The provision that affects me is an OIC, so it'll come later, perhaps in a year or two after Royal Assent, so if does pass like it is now, I might have atleast a year or two before it gets revoked, we'll see.

The lifetime background checks came summer 2021 after C-71 passed in 2019.

UPDATE:

After being on hold with Central Processing for nearly an hour, I finally got through. The kind lady uploaded my photo, and my status changed to Approved/Valid. Its off to the printers! I guess the CFO-ON completed the review and was just waiting for the photo.

I have my PAL#, and am only waiting for my card.

Christmas may come early, afterall. ;)

Congratulations! I was in a similar situation - MVC told me it was just awaiting a photo update (I was worried they lost my photo that I included with the physical mailing - I paper clipped it on the paper application)...and the next day or so it was approved...so it looks like indeed just an upload of the photo.

That said it's been almost a month since my restricted endorsement was approved, but no card in the mail yet (I check every day). I know handguns are frozen but there is an SBR I want and I am itching to get into the store to get it, but need my physical updated card (since I am pretty sure my current PAL won't cut it for an SBR - I am assuming stores cannot see that my PAL has since been upgraded).

I read new posts in this thread daily in the hopes of seeing others receiving their physical card, which means whatever printer problems they have been encountering have since been resolved.

Thanks thegazelle, HalRexnar, and Bondylee. I appreciate it.

@thegazelle - Same. I paper clipped the photo to all the pages and thought it was lost. Great, another barrier, I thought.

I also applied for the PAL/RPAL. Are they approved together or separately? Is it a single card or are there 2?

I hope you get yours in the mail soon, and can get that an SBR. They are definitely a great addition to any collection.

The lady I spoke to in central processing said "We only send the licenses by standard mail, just so you know, it doesn't rocket to you overnight". I guess when all else fails, blame delays on Canada Post.

Thanks again all!

It's single card, regardless of PAL or PAL+Restricted. In fact you can't tell from the front - it's the back that lists the privileges (ie. my current card says Non-Restricted on the back, new one will say Non Restricted, Restricted). Front of card looks the same as anyone else's.

Can I order online with out my Physical card...if I have the numbers?

This is an interesting point...I have not bought any firearms ONLINE since May 18's new "PAL validation" transfer number requirement - I've only bought in store and in person privately.

If a person has a PAL with no physical card, and they tried to buy online, wouldn't the government's new mandated requirements force the buyer to send a scan of the front/back of the PAL card to satisfy the "PAL validation" requirement. I heard some stores are asking for this, but as I have no firsthand experience with an online firearms purchase since May 18's new requirements.

I'm just wondering...my pal in the printing room ...so I'm License technically and would just put it in the safe until card Arrives

Yes you can order online if you have the numbers. Some stores just need the license number and info for license verification whereas some require you to send a picture of both front and back & one additional piece of ID. You can check out various stores that just need the numbers. For example, I got my Tavor from Solely Outdoors with just my license# .
Kudos!
