B.C. Liberal MP says hunters’ guns targeted by Bill C-21 may still be used by criminals

The Liberal MP stated that while the piece of legislation doesn’t have, as a purpose, to target hunters and law-abiding farmers, the use of some of their commonly-used firearms may be prohibited.

In an interview with CBC’s Catherine Cullen, the Liberal member of Parliament for Vancouver-Grenville Taleeb Noormohamed justified the fact that some firearms are used by hunters by saying that some criminals may also use these weapons for their own interests.

He stated that while the piece of legislation doesn’t have, as a purpose, to target hunters and law-abiding farmers, the use of some of their commonly-used firearms may be prohibited, which he claims could indirectly target hunters, while also targeting criminals.

“Unfortunately, both things can be true,” the member of Parliament stated.

Noormohamed notably touched on the potential prohibition of the SKS rifle.

“When it comes to the SKS, [it] has been used to kill cops across this country, because it is so inexpensive, yes it is used in some contexts by hunters,” explained Noormohamed, “but it is also unfortunately used in the hands of criminals.”

“It’s a reality that we need to accept,” he added. Noormohamed defended this theory while answering Cullen's question.

“The overwhelming majority of Canadians have said to us ‘look we need to get these guns out of our streets’ and this is where we have to figure out exactly how to thread a needle on this,” Noormohamed also claimed.

The member of Parliament also touched on the alleged misinformation surrounding Bill C-21, partially blaming the Conservative Party of Canada. “There’s a lot of misinformation out there about what is and what isn’t part of [the bill], and [...] the conservatives have done a wonderful job at stocking up a lot of fears.”

Noormohamed claimed the committee remains open to new amendments to better suit the intentions the Trudeau government has laid out.

“If there are guns on this list that shouldn't be there for all of the reasons folks have identified and that are reasonable, [...] we need to work on fixing that,” he told Cullen.

A GROWING OPPOSITION TO C-21
Recently, members of the NDP and the Liberal Party publicly voiced their opposition to certain sections of Bill C-21, essentially saying it goes too far. A Bloc Québécois MP also joined them, supporting this feeling.

The Liberal MP for Yukon, Brendan Hanley, spoke out against Bill C-21. “Many, many Yukoners […] regularly hunt, either as a food source or for the recreational aspects of hunting,” Hanley told CBC News.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre used Hanley’s comments during question period, attacking the Liberals on C-21.

“He’s confirmed what Conservatives have been saying all along,” Poilievre began. “He says, ‘I’m not happy with this gun bill and I’m not in a position to support this bill at this moment with those amendments in play.‘”

Another member of Parliament who came out against Bill C-21 is Charlie Angus, NDP MP for Timmins–James Bay in Ontario. His riding is home to a large Indigenous population.

Angus wrote on Twitter, sharing an article from CBC, that “The 11th hour amendment thrown into Bill C-21 is hugely problematic and must be fixed.”

Wow, I had never really considered that someone could use a firearm to commit a crime until now.....

Well this changes everything!

:jerkit:

The guns aren't on the streets to begin with.

And if firearms could be used to commit crimes, the money in a Liberal's wallet could be used to buy child ####ography...

What criminals break the law, no shat! Here's a picture from a Toronto smuggling bust Dec 5 all guns from Arizona and Texas. I guess they never got the message on the handgun freeze or the AR15 ban.

Strange. I don't see a single Weatherby, Parker bros. shotgun or Ruger #1 on the table.
I believe Taleeb is a politician simply as he/she/it is not intelligent enough to find a real job.

Good point, clearly it's not just guns littering the streets that need to be cleaned up..... cash needs to go in order to keep the children safe!

Taleeb Noormohamed... It's all in the name. Where he comes from, only criminals, army, and law enforcement are allowed to have firearms. The very idea that an ordinary citizen should be allowed to have any sort of weapon, is deeply alien to these people. This is what happens when they flood our country with people whose world views are so much different from ours.

If they haven't figured out, they never will.

Noormohammed is a controversial MP. He has made millions flipping real estate in Vancouver, yet his party’s platform is dead against this practice as it fuels housing price increases. It’s not illegal but the hypocrisy is typical Liberal.

I want to hear ma noormohamad tell us which guns the Liberals find acceptable for criminal use and also how many people in what amount of time killed with firearms is acceptable? I have a feeling the answer is zero. That's a pretty short list.

All firearms are fair game for criminal use, always have been.

Measured against the capacity of government for murdering the citizens of their own nations, nothing that criminals can accomplish in that vein is of any concern whatever, in the opinion of the gun grabbers.

The 460 Weatherby and other 》10,000 joule(wtf is a joule)are used by criminals in drive by shootings everyday. Said no one, never.

The 460 Weatherby isn't even a common caliber in East Africa. Smoke and mirrors....dog n pony. Look here, get upset....while choosing between heating n eating.
