Ok, here's the deal.

What I don't want because they are ugly:

Ruger Mark
Beretta Neo
Browning Buck

What I don't want because they've got issues and are made cheap:

Walther P22
Norinco Colt Woodsman Copy

I've previously owned a Hammerli Essex but don't really feel like going back to it. What are my options left? Sig Mosquito and .....

S&W 41, CZ Cadet, Glock with .22 top end, Kimber 1911 in .22
What do you want out of the pistol?

Just general plinking, nothing that needs amazing top notch accuracy. Seems like the senerio calls for a conversion kit. I'm not too impressed with any of the stuff out there. Too bad about the mosquito and P22, I would definitely buy one if there aren't so many hiccups.

you find a the rugers ugly? I'd stare a little more, they grow on you and tend to be very accurate and reliable

Heh, heh, heh... touché!

Then again, who cares what the Ruger looks like. It shoots great and accurate. Was my second gun purchase and my first brand new gun. I even like the new mag release on the Mark III although I still reach for the bottom automatically since I'm so used to the older Mark II's.

A lot of people complain about the new features but the lock doesn't get used so isn't an issue and the Loaded Chamber Indicator don't even get noticed.

I'm sorry if any feels offended about my comments regarding the ruger and browning. But that is how I feel. Unfortunately, in terms of asthetics, I'm looking for something that resembles more tactical and have a closer feel to a centerfire pistol. The problem is the only 2 guns that I feel fit this description is the P22 and the Mosquito, which apparently have alot of issues being reported. Currently the only pistols I own do not have conversion kits available, except my Glock19, but then the kit would be prohibited. I think I have to take a long hard look at either the Ruger Stainless Target or the S&W 617 10 Shot. But like someone's mentioned above, wheel guns in 22LR just takes more effort to reload.

Is there really no other options out there for me?

I think your comment is quite right about Ruger, I have a 2245 Mark III and I call her ugly duckie. Funny thing is Ruger .22 pistol is not quite user friendly but shoot really good and I don't mind this way. P22 is very ###y looking, had one before, shoot nice and never jam. But a lot of other small issues and piss me off. I think the newer verson is not that bad. I think the Tanfogio force 22 and the Cz kadet will be the right stuff for you.

I don't know what it would cost to import one but a gun dealer in Utah has the 617 for less than $600. The thing about a S&W is you're not going to lose any money if you get tired of it and want to sell it.

Other than many others mentioned above, you could look at the Beretta 87 (or a used 89)

One good thing about the Ruger and Buckmark is that they can use the "Ultimate Cliploader" which makes loading mags really quick and easy. 5 full mags in about 30 seconds.
