P14 Tanky Tanker Project 80% Done: Bubba'd

you are going to put an original military sight on it right!

Unfortunately I don't see a way I can retro fit one to the front l, nor do I have the tools or skill to make one that looks similar, the front sight now has grooves for a front sight hood, if I found one that fit I could could some holes in the side of it, vaguely resemble some sight ears maybe? I am going to put an original rear sight on but I'll have to see how it does with sighting. There is a peep right now threaded into where the rear sight spring plate would normally sit.

It's your rifle, so give it the look YOU like.

That front sight is going to be way to low in comparison to the center of the rear sight, say POI over a meter high at 50m.

Fitting an original front sight wouldn't be any harder than the sight you now have.

Still, it looks good to me.

The barrel diameter now is larger then the original front sight housing, I thought about maybe splicing an original sight and trying to reshape for the bigger barrel, bit this one is nice and secure with two screw, and the oomph of some hotter 45-70 it might be a better one to have on there

to go through all the work to make it, and not make the right front sight. seems wrong to me. to each his own I guess.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to, just need to figure it out is all. I should probably actually shoot the thing before I get even more carried away.

OMG BUBBA...... :) well whatever, I've built my own tanker in the past, and have a No1 Enfield that I am working on, as well as something in 44Mag that might be going on an EAL receiver

If you need an original front sight to work with I have 4 or 5 kicking around.

You should be able to drift out the sight blade on that sight and replace it with a higher one.

If not, it's relatively easy to add a bit to the top.

Whatever works and fits the overall appearance to you likes.

Well after being neglected since I made this thread, Finally got it finished up today, And yes the front sight leaves a lot to be desired, But took it out today and it shot really nice, Even with my stout 500 grainers

Not bad!

You should try some graphite or maybe a torch to darken up that front top handguard wood.

Post the target! :)

I will try and do something with it, I do have excess bottom wood I may try and fashion a new top forend all together so it will match the rest.

No target, was at work in -22 with 65k winds, so just ran some into a dirt pile before my finger froze!

I have one as well, but the amount of modification it would take is beyond my capabilities, and as it stands right now this is still a sturdy setup for a camp gun.

not surprised, that barrel looks fairly stout, and opening up the rear sight to fit would be a problem. Might have to cut it and open it up and then weld in a bit to make one work

I hear you!

I was firing a few rounds off to test a project yesterday morning too before work. -30 with the blowing wind and snow. Brrrrr.
