Sako TRG M10 wins the Canadian Multi-Calibre Sniper Weapon

The "Long & the Short" of it, is that it's really an F-Class action that they improved, well done, lets move on. How many guns are they building for Ukraine is what I want to know?

Ukraine? They’re done with jahadi arabias guns? #### even the lemoni dudes got em.
I do remember a decent sized contact for Ukrainian a few years ago but have no clue about it now. Hopefully more than they sent to these cave dwelling dip####s. I get a strong “the gods must be crazy” vibe from this picture.

“ Between 2016 and 2019, Canada exported nearly 5,000 rifles to Saudi Arabia, with the majority being sniper rifles manufactured by PGW Defence Technologies Inc. in Winnipeg, Man., according to the report.”

I'm sorry but I don't see the utility of changing calibers like this unless you are so desperate for ammo you would switch back to 308 to steal cartridges out of linked machine gun belts (which is a futile exercise anyhow).

Practice and shoot with 300 win mag or 338 Lapua or Norma mag and stick with it. Why settle for anything less?

PGW Coyote/Timberwolf is goated, no cap, fr on God. I want one very badly despite them being out of production.

Nazis or state sponsored terrorism - pick your evil I guess.

More and more .mil/gov rifles are requiring that feature. I don't live in that world so can't speak personally to that, but I would imagine it's to have rifles that can be optimized for specific missions.

It's so that the rifles can be used to train with less costly ammunition, and also could be due to range templates which may or may not allow for certain calibers i.e. 338 Lapua.

I see it too with everything from pistols to rifles like this.

It just reeks of not knowing what exactly you plan to do, or this mindset that you can interchange everything.
Logistics for such a "multi mission" endeavor are a nightmare, I'm sure.

What exactly would be an appropriate mission where a three oh great would be better at than a lapua mag? Just launch lapua mags at everything, unless you're going with a "bananas" kit trying to haul an entire armory.
What exactly is the advantage of a three oh great that's in a extra long magnum action with a blocker?

Ask militaries all over the world. A lot of militaries are moving to this requirement.

Ok you just repeated your appeal to authority argument again, I'm asking for a real reason.

Ranges (even DND ones) having issues with larger calibers is a reason (albeit a pretty poor one).

Alongside range templating it reduces cost of training to train on the smaller cheaper 308 ans use the magnums for final validation exes and actual deployments, it’s a logistically more cost effective solution and reduces wear and tear on the big magnum barrels.

The answer is always money. It’s a more expensive up front cost for substantially cheaper life cycle cost of training and deployment.

As for what 308 does better over 338, there are subsonic 308 rounds that when combined with suppressors make for a substantially more difficult to spot urban/short distance setup.
