Hunting scope sub 500?

Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40 green dot, or green mil-dot duplex reticles. Kenton speed dial turrets available for dial up. Mil-dot you have hold points that will get you past 600-700 yards no problem depending on cartridge. Dial up they do 12 moa per rotation, will get even a slow cartridge to over 500 from a 200 yard zero. Way better glass than leupold 1" stuff, and the battery free illuminated reticle dot is very intuitive for hunting, won't go back to leupold with these now. 13.4 oz, and clear in 1" low rings. Talley's are about 2 oz so you add 15.5 oz with scope and rings to many rifles, well worth it for this next level glass over the 1" leupolds.

I have a Whisky 3 scope by Sig Sauer think power is 2-7x32 on my 240wby - you do not need any AO adjustment as long as you can hit a standard dinner plate at 200 yards your good - learn to shoot at that distance and you will soon find out that AO adjustments are useless

Curious what you guys think about this, since I've spent the last week looking into things.

I want a 2-7 scope for hunting deer/plinking within 200y with a 308. My budget is sub 500, so the Leupold Freedom series comes up a lot. I'd love to try such a scope, but the lack of AO bothers me for some reason. My biggest desires in this is lightweight (under 11oz?) and GREAT glass quality. I want something that makes me understand why I paid 500$ for an optic instead of a 200$ one.

I've used Bushnell banners, a Vortex Diamondback and a Crimson Trace Brushline.

if you are willing to add ~1500, get a Leica Amplus 3-18.
Very nice and compact scope for hunting purpose.

Under 200 yards , you really shouldnt need an AO, particularly for a hunting scope. - dan

All the scopes in the "Elite" line regardless of numbers in the name were made in Japan. I still have two. I believe they are discontinued but can still be found and are a great deal for Japanese glass.

There was a thread earlier this year where people were worried that some of the 4X00 elite scopes were no longer be made in Japan. No "made in Japan" anywhere on the scope or box, and nobody could get a response out of Bushnell. Other forums had similar threads, but after a quick google it looks like Bushnell has confirmed the elites are still made in Japan.

Superb scopes, think I paid $220 for mine last year and it has clearer glass than my Leupold VX1 and Viper HS that cost 2x+ more. I should really grab 1-2 more if they can still be found...

I'm pretty sure the new 4500 are made in Korea.

for a 2-7 I'd buy a 3500 elite, have one mounted on my 25-06 and seems to work ok.

VX freedom punch above their weight class. Would take them over the old VX III personally. Made in USA redfield (revenge?) of recent manufacture are good if you can find a used one.

An American Marksman was due to arrive today, but Canada post has pushed it back to Wednesday now. Pretty excited to see how it fares against my 100$ bushnell. ONE of them will end up on the EE Thursday!

Bushnell elites. And one that is just superb and other overlooked is the burris fullfield 2

Great scope, discontinued though. They still make the E1 though with similar reticles and made at the same factory in the Philippines. I just bought a 4.5-14 side focus. Great price, great quality and great warranty! I wouldn’t hesitate for a budget scope, they out punch their weight class! I have a couple of the Fullfield 2’s and have yet to be dissatisfied.

It's unfortunate there isn't more 2-7 offerings to hunters. The elite 2-7x32 are gone which is a shame, nice small compact hunting optic for well beyond the OP's range. Even an elite 4500 1-4x24mm would compliment a 200yd deer rifle, and be well under budget.

Leupold freedom line...when it comes to glassyou get what you pay for.

Agree with the elite line of scopes comments.

I've found a couple 2-7 on ####### for around $300, just have to watch, they are out there!

Totally agreed. Unfortunately they aren't trendy right now.

I'll second the Burris. I think I have 5 of them on different rifles. - dan

3rd on Burris, specifically the current run of Fullfield IVs. The 2.5-10 is a great hunting scope, I've compared them so far to Vortex Crossfire IIs and Diamondbacks, Bushnell Prime, Banner, Legend, and Engage, Leupold Rifleman, Nikon Prostaff 3, and probably a few others in the <$500 range and they are my favorite so far. They are not VX-3HD or even VX-3i level of goodness, but they are very good hunting scopes with lifetime warranties (I had a 20-year-old FF II in need of an internal cleaning and re-purge and it was round-tripped in about 3 weeks).

That said, the same 20-year-old Fullfield II has been on just about every rifle I've owned at some point, from .17 HMR to .458 Lott and aside from a tight eye box (which I feel is why the IV is so great - very forgiving), the glass and turrets are no worse than any of the others. But the IV is just good all-around. To improve on that I think I'd have to step up to the VX-3HD.

Not that long ago you could buy Leupold Freedom rimfire 2-7's for $275 out the door... still excellent scopes, but less so for almost twice the price.

Yes, the current 4500 series is made in Korea, says right on their website. I checked one out today (2.5-10x40), seems alright. A bit heavy as most 30mm tubes are. Eyebox was pretty tight, but they usually are on Bushnells. Good value for a 4x erector assembly though.
