Are these SKS good deal?

I have owned many sks. There is not a lot of play between the action and stock. Most sks you can usually push the action back and forth a half a centimeter. The condition was excellent. Trigger for an sks was good I did not bother doing a trigger job on it. Accuracy was decent for an sks. 5 inch 10 shot group at 100 with norinco non corrosive. That ammo is only capable of 3 moa in my bolt which can shoot 1 moa with decent ammo.

As for being worth it obvious for me I paid the 500$.

You don’t have to tolerate a loose stock. You can shim it. It wasn’t designed to sit in a loose stock.

Tenda got some Chinese SKS for 500 dollars which were built in 90s. Are these never fired new rifles?

I have one. These are Type 56 carbines, 1978 year production, factory /26\. The barreled action is of excellent quality. Never shot. The stocks were lightly refurbished, in some stocks, you can find small plugs in the Chu wood. Otherwise, nice stocks. These SKSs were produced for strategic storage, never issued. In 1980 the Type 56 carbine production came to an end. That batch of Chinese Type 56 SKSs is most likely the last one you would ever get, especially in nearly-new condition. Also, they are very good shooters.

I picked one up earlier this year.

I've owned a couple of the Russian versions before and enjoyed them for a short time.

After having a look at these new Type 56 imports and testing out a friend's at the range, I was impressed with the 'new gun' feel of these. The ones I've seen are certainly unissued and unfired. Even the triggers seem a tad smoother than the Tulas...that just may be my imagination. No matter what, they are late 70's production and unused, rather than 50's production and often well used.

If you're interested in SKS production, manufacture, and comparisons, a couple of YouTube channels that really dive in are Gnutzguy and Triangle 26. Some interesting bits of info.

I honestly wasn't interested in picking up another SKS, especially after seeing the 'quality' of the last batch of Type 56s we had in Canada...most were pretty beat up. I have to agree with 05RAV, these are probably the last opportunity to get your hands on a 'new-old stock' SKS. Still no precision rifle, these seem to shoot pretty consistently. Highly recommended!

There's a mix out there, recent imports have been pretty rough, except for the newer /26\ rifles..those appear to be unissued..but perhaps not all...Depends on what you want one for,..a Chinese sks in good shape will do quite well..

China was still building SKSs in the 1990s?? News to me.

lol. actually they can, if the price is right. john from marstar said publicly over a decade ago that he tried to get them to make SKS-D but the minimum order and the price were too high. sadly no deal were made.

This is a very good year /26\ rifle. 1978 the T63 was withdrawn from production and the T56 reissued and production restarted at Chongqing Jianshe 296. The 78/79 23/24m guns are some of the best made.

Years ago Marstar sourced some unissued SKS rifles apparently made for the PLA and put into storage. They went for $75 if you bought a Norinco M14 clone as well. I still have both. The SKS looks to be better quality than some commercial ones, with a more solid stock.

Yes, I remember they sold three SKS’s together as a bulk pack. I went in on it with a few buddies, it worked out to about $180 each for a new, unissued, all matching SKS.

I bought my Marstar SKS deal when it was "Buy a crate of surplus ammo and get the SKS for $75". If only I knew then what I know now...
