6x55 swede wildcat

I’ll just sell my lapua swede brass for a loss so I can buy some over inflated R-P 6mm brass and a set of RCBS

As far as I know the 6.5 Arch is an Ackley style improved 6.5x55, there was an article about it in, I want to say, "Canadian Hunting and Shooting" back in the 90's.

You could probably run the 6.5 Swede brass through a 6rem die and be there, with a slightly larger case head. Might matter depending on what you build it off of.

Like you I have a plethora of brass, a free barrel and a donor action sitting here. Never said I wanted more performance than a 6mm Remington.

As for the 7.62 Hoyt, you could have got there by loading a 308 win with ramshot TAC but hey where’s the fun in that.

This site is a riot

I can also load the 7.62X57 with Tac... case capacity is case capacity, all else being equal.

So the real concern here is losing $25 selling the brass.
You are going to lose hundreds of $$ when you decide to sell the 6x55 nobody wants lol.

I’m not concerned at all. Some of you seem to be though. y’all should have your gunnut card revoked

Interesting idea for sure. Will save the reamer cost but the die cost is negligible if I just put a new bushing in my swede dies

I'm intrigued by the 6x55, and also the 6mm-08.

How does the 6mm-08 differ from the 243 Win?

Anyways, the 6mm-284 makes the most sense to me - same case length as the 6.5X55, but larger in diameter. These no Wildcat based on the 6.5X55 that can provide more case capacity.

...the 6mm-284 makes the most sense to me...

I agree, of the options discussed, the 6-284 is the only one that "makes sense," and probably the only one that might hold some of the value for the cost of the build, or at least more than the others... however, it really doesn't have to make sense... it will be different, and gun nutters tend to like "different."

The 6X55 is not how I would go with the project, but not everyone likes Rum & Raisin ice cream, my go to.

Perhaps, germane to this discussion, is a recent decision to abandon my proposed 6.5-284 project when the 6.5X55 donor rifle turned out to be devastatingly accurate as is... yeah, I did that again.

I don't think there is, I was just joking. I use 308 brass to make 243, and often joke that it's "6mm-08".

The 6.5x284 is on my list to look into further or build out at some point.

I envision one wearing a 24” #2 or #3 profile bbl snuggled in a Wildcat or at least B&C Stock, wearing a Leupold VX3i 3.5-10x40 I have lying around. Would be a nice lighter alternative to my ‘06 Mtn SS as my main.

That's not the dumbest idea I've heard. In fairness though, I've heard a lot of really dumb ideas! Nowadays, even the 6mm Remington is practically a wildcat, so it doesn't make much difference. You pretty well need a proper reamer though. There is nothing worse than having a bunch of brass or a barrel blank looking for a purpose. I've saved myself a lot of money by giving away brass or dies which were tempting me.
