Chiappa 45 70 12 inch barrel accuracy

Does anyone have any input on what to expect from a Chiappa 45-70 with the 12” barrel for accuracy and reliability. I know the topic has been brought up many times before but I can’t seem to find any accuracy results. Not looking to ring a gong at 500 yards just practical 100 yard shoot a deer with and ethically harvest it. I’m looking for a small easily packed hunting gun so I can use my bow during gun season as I actually prefer bow hunting but if I have to use the gun I have it. The Marlin and Henry’s are nice but I’d want the dark and they’re impossible to find and do not take down.

50m sighting in target with a 2moa red dot.

First hit bottom right, adjusted & fired again with the hit still low right, adjusted & fired the 3 shot group.

Ammo was 325 grain Hornady LeverEvolution.

They are accurate enough. Also they don't lose a ton of speed with the short barrel either. It was printing groups with my marlin GG at 50 yards. Now there will be muzzle flash with certain loads and even with the short package they are not light. If i was doing what you are doing. Might look for the 1892 version in 44mag takedown. Another option and fun one is a Stoeger 12 gauge coach gun sxs. breaks down and you have buck shot and slug option. Will take the birds too. :)
 
Thank you for the recommendation I am most certainly going to look those options up. Looking at that paper group that’s more than accurate enough for what I want to do just need to weigh out my options now I guess
 
I have two as well. Not a whole bunch of ammo through either, but both have been just fine so far function wise. It's been commented on before that Chiappa bores tend to have lots of chatter marks. I've scoped mine, and it is certainly true for mine. That said, they both have decent hunting accuracy. But rough bores pretty well proclude top notch accuracy. But plenty good for the distance limitations of the cartridge.
 
12” 45-70 I’m sure is a easy deer gun at 100+yards. One of those things that’s on my to get list but hard to justify at this time. I have a .44 ranch hand full stock, last time out I hit the 12” gong free hand 6 out of 7 shots, just once I did a 2” group off a rest. For serious hunting I’d probably put a reflex or a red dot on it.

And what makes you assume I don't have experience with multiple Chiappa firearms as well as their warranty centre in Canada?

I’ve got a 1892 NSR with the 12” barrel in .44 mag, very light (iirc about 1.5lbs lighter then a 12” barreled 1886 pattern guns) and might be a good option if weight is a priority.

I’ve got a RDS on mine with room for a light on an offset mount off the optics rail for night time use.

The NSR aren’t takedown but other variants are (the Alaskan being a nice one), holds 6 in the tube and overall great packing or camp gun and would recommend.

Thanks and yeah you’re right not shown on the chiappa website. I know they make their various models in batches so hopefully will be back when they make some more and not totally out of production. Too cool of a gun to go away forever.

Out of curiosity I posted in the NS thread, let’s see if they reply in any more coming into the country.
