So, my plan of building an 7 PRC off of a Rem action got scrapped .

Now I’m looking at other options.
Problem I see is that the 7 PRC uses a magnum.532 bolt in a long action.
So if I went with the Remington, I’d need to mix and match an action.

So, other that a custom action, how about a Tikka action?
As the Tikka action is all the same size ,wouldn’t I just need a bolt stop?
Would there be any issues if going with a magnum Tikka?
Thanks

Why can't you use a Rem magnum action? Like use a 7mag or 300mag donor action?

Tikka is a great platform to build off...same thing find one in 7mag etc and you can just add your barrel.

I run long and short action calibers all out of the came tikka action so I would be doing the same. If youre buying a rifle do as mikeelliot suggested and but a 7mag or 300mag rifle and do a barrel swap. Pretty easy build and you can always sell the original barrel to someone or keep it for fun later.

If you have standard bolt face rifle you can always get the bolt face opened up by a smith.

You can change bolt stops on the Tikka if need be too either order a new one or grind to fit.

I just thought you need a standard long action but a bit a magnum bolt

I think the days of building up a factory action are pretty much done anyways. If a reputable gunsmith spends a day trueing up an action and chambering a barrel to suit, you’re getting into custom action territory. The new ARC action will probably be one of the cheaper ones.
Plus the availability of different bolt faces future proofs it to some degree. When I bought my nucleus short action, I bought three available bolt faces at the same time.

Both action lengths are the same. It's just a long action. One will have a 3006 .473 bolt and the mag will be Rem mag both face. (.540IIRC)

For Tikka all actions are the same size just the bolts bolt stops and mags differ.

Hope that makes sense

Yes it do, thanks.
I can get a Tikka for around $850, but all I’m getting in all is the action as the barrel and stock are pretty much worthless.
Or I could pick up a Mack Bro for $1000 ish.

Think I may as well get a custom action?

Seems you dont actually understand Rem action sizes. In the 700, there are two. Short and long. In those two, there are three bolt sizes, 223, std (308, 30-06, etc), and magnum (7 Rem Mag, 300 Win Mag, 7 PRC. All you need is a normal Rem 700 long magnum action. There are a few oddballs as well, but that description will guide you through 99% of the 700's out there. - dan

I don't think the mac bros is $1000. I thought they were like $1150 or close to when InSite showed them on the website. That being said, a custom is always the answer. Depending on the action you can swap bolt heads and have a collection of barrels.

I would buy a Mack Bros. Evo II off Insite Arms. Go with his recommendation on a trigger - Bix and Andy. He has Hardy Barrels in stock for you. Call Wildcat composites for a stock - KS TAC or the Remington. Have Insite put it together and shoot the #### out of it....you will be set up for a while and rebarrel it when your tired of it.

We are currently building 7mm PRC rifles using Tikka actions. If you have a 6.5 PRC action just swap out one small piece and throw a 7mm PRC barrel onto it and you're done.

Like others have said, all you need is a Rem 700 long action with a magnum bolt face (as in 7 Rem Mag or 300 Win Mag). Either find an old inexpensive-ish R700 in 7RM or 300WM and get a new barrel spun up, do the same with a Tikka or pick up a custom action. I think the Mack Bros Evo is probably the least expensive custom out there and by all accounts very nice.
