Not at the price those rifles go for these days, $1239usd MSRP is an expensive gun when the PC Carbine is only $779usd.
As long as semi autos are legal in this country I don't see manual actions selling very well, especially when some semi auto options are cheaper.
Even once semi autos get banned in this country I can't see $1500+ 9mm bolt actions selling well. I know I wouldn't buy one, I just don't see the point - the appeal of 9mm to me is that it's cheap, but if the rifle is expensive that kind of defeats the purpose. 9mm isn't much good for hunting, a bolt action isn't much good for self defense, and if it's all about cost than 22lr is cheaper. At least that's my reasoning.
I think it depends on what for.
I think 9mm would be great for a lightweight compact bolt gun. Something to graduate my kids to after the savage rascal.
Taking newbies out it would be a not so scary gun to get them started on. I try to introduce a minimum of 1 person a year to shooting.
Also I don't under estimate the 9mm . I think under 50 meters it would be fine for anything in NB short of a moose.
223 would be a better option for that niche IMO. Ammo isn't as cheap but guns are available and affordable.
223 while it doesn't have any recoil, it is super loud. And I noticed newbies associate loudness with recoil.
Sideways is no good.![]()
Interesting. My kids equate loudness with fun. lol
They have only shot 22lr, but they love to be around when the bigger guns come out.

I think that a better way to go if it has to be a manual action, and that day keeps looking closer, are the straight pull actions that are almost identical to the semi-automatics. Can't recall where the videos I saw were from...
Some lock open and the bolt release has to be hit every shot or are locked at firing and need to be charged every round. I can see a use for either but they would be much better for action shooting and closely resemble existing tactical platforms.
I only know of one other 9mm Lee in Canada. It seems to chamber and feed fine.
It just a general observation I noticed when people were shooting with new shooters and short barrel AR were on the firing line. That many associate loud with recoil.
I was shooting my Herrett which caused a few loud WTF was that. The 16" 3030 the guy and his friend firing were shooting, wasn't close to being as loud. I walk over and give them a round and extext my hand with the gun. Both grabbed it like a sawed off. Its actually comfortable to shoot as a handgun.
Yes that would be better for action shooting and would possibly function easier, but i guess my tastes have changed. Im kind of bored with aluminum "tactical" guns covered in rails and sharp angles, especially if they are manual repeaters. I guess my logic is that if a ruger pcc is essentially a scaled up 10/22, then why not scale up a 77/22 to a 77/9? Yes, I have a thing for old rugers sorry. I would love to hear from some Canadian manufacturers or machinists thoughts on making a 9mm bolt gun, I want one
Hi there,
I was wondering if you happened to know if Ruger has discontinued the 77/44 rifles or if you will see any in stock in the near future?
Thanks!
Models 7416 and 7417 were on the list of models we could 'book' for 2023. Of course, they were last few years and we've seen none .
Oh. Yeah. Short barreled ARs are loud, especially because they usually have brakes on em and even with the little 223 those suck to be beside.
But if we're talking noise from 9mm bolt guns, wouldn't it only be fair to compare that to a 223 bolt gun, rather than an AR with a short barrel and brake?
