2.5 inch 00-Buckshot in Beretta 1301 Tactical?

I haven't shot that stuff through a 1301 ..... but I have shot it through my 870s without a problem.

At 1200fps this S&B buckshot is hotter than many law enforcement rounds ..... so I would assume it cycles semis just fine.

However, that load gave me the worst patterns ever ..... This pattern is at 20 meters .... and with an IC choke ....

Get some Federal Low-Recoil 00 in 9 pellet, or 8(If you can find it). It's the preferred buckshot for the 1301.

Some users have noted issues cycling the Federal Flitecontrol Low recoil 8 pellet in 1301s.
I haven’t tried it but I stocked up on the 9 pellet version just in case.

What does one usually shoot out of the 1301? Call me silly but I always thought 00 buck in 2.5" was a basic load for that style of gun/shooting...

Most regular 12 gauge shells are 2.75”
There is some variation in Europe. A lot of 2 5/8” shells that are interchangeable with 2.75”.
2.5” was an old spec from the turn of the century and is usually low pressure shells for old guns.
In this case it’s pretty much standard buckshot in a short shell so I’d be careful not to use it in antique guns.

I hadn't heard that before, haven't encountered it myself either. The 1301 seems great for lower pressure shells, at least for a semi. But 8 pellet and 9 pellet are essentially the exact same shell, there wont be a much of a difference except for the 9th pellet being a bit of a flyer.

The big thread on pistol forum about 1301s had a few people note problems with 8 pellet.
Other users noted no reliability issues with that load.
I would try it but haven’t found any in Manitoba to buy.
Cabelas had a small run of the 9 pellet low recoil this fall so I bought a bunch of it and it patterns and cycles great.

Actually I have two concerns.

The first is obviously related to the shotgun's ability to cycle lower power loads but reading the posts above, that concern is now dissipated.

My second concern is related to the length of the shell itself. I'm somewhat concerned that a shorter shell may have just enough room to tumble inside the receiver and get jammed between the closing bolt and the breech.

Only way to find out for sure: buy a box as an add-on to other ammo you must be buying regularly from Tenda, and try it out.

I don't really like the low recoil buck loads as I prefer the hotter tac and personal defense loads with the flight control wad as I use them for hunting but my 1301 comp ran them all just fine. It even cycles 3/4oz skeet loads just fine
I did give it the proper break-in with very heavy loads
