Need some info from the people who have had this done. I understand 12 inch patterns at 25 yards with buckshot and supposedly excellent accuracy with slugs. What I am looking to find out is how does the system do with say lighter loads used for small game like #4 5 and 6 size lead shot.

Reason why Iam asking is I had a beautifull 12 Guage smooth bore barrel for my encore prohunter given to me problem is the first six inches at the muzzle was completely toast with rust inside and out to the point I could not even remove the choke tube (was kept in a basement muzzle down on a concrete floor for number of years ) so off to my buddies it went chucked in the lathe and I now have a pristine 19.25 inch cylinder bore barrel for my encore.

So now one of two things are going to happen it’s going to get threaded for rem chokes or it’s going to tac ord for the vang comp system. Still not sure about the porting as I had a 12 that had been magnaported and my ears could not take it.

I'd recommend Rem-Choke, which is also under $100 as opposed to $200-250 for VC.

I have 6 shotguns that have been worked on by Casey (870 x 4, Winchester Model 12 and Browning A5) and cannot recommend his work enough. I had 7 until I shipped an 870 out to BC a couple of days ago. I have 3 barrels that have been Vang Comp'd and 3 that have been set up for Rem-Choke and am happy with all of them. While the VC barrels will shoot smaller shot tighter than a Cyl Bore barrel it's kind of a gamble (my 14" VC barrel shoots solid Mod patterns with Federal #5 Heavy Game and about the same with S&B #7.5, about all the small shot that I've put through it, but my 2 18.5" VC barrels aren't quite as tight).

None of my barrels are ported...

I’d take screw in chokes on a gun that was going to be used to hunt with, cheaper to have done and more versatility with variety of chokes and loads. If it was a dedicated shotgun for one thing, defense or competition I’d consider the Vancomp route.

Thanks for the help. Looks like it’s going to tac ord and haveing rem chokes installed. I can relate to versatility of choke tubes as one of my Remington 870s has a dlask 12.5 inch barrel which the threaded for rem chokes and it’s a literal grouse killing machine once I figured out which choke for which shot

Well that's a definitive answer if I ever saw one :D

I'm looking into getting a vented rib barrel for an 870 Tac-14. Is anything like that possible up here, or would I have to look down south, to the likes of Vang, for something like that?

Ever since I saw a video of Matt Haught showing off his vent rib 14" with VC I have also been intrigued by the concept. I like vent ribs more than just a barrel with a bead...
