Hey Guys,

A bit of a newbie with over and unders. Please help.

410-1.jpg

Just got a Steoger Condor 410 youth over and under a few days ago and never shot. The front half of the forend has enough play and creep that is too much for me to handle. The front end of the handle makes lots of noise when you handle it. Kinda sounds like when you step on creaky floor boards.

The hinge portion of the forend is solid.

I also have the same over under in 12GA and the whole forend is rock solid no play creep and no sound when you handle it.

So I am wondering if this is a quality issue or it's just the luck of the draw and you just have to buy a couple and get a good one.

I brought it back to the dealer and they said this is normal.

It still annoys me to no end. can you guys provide me with some solutions please.

Some soultions I thought of
1. put in some paper towel shimmy inbetween the forend and barrel
2. call steoger canada and potential warranty?
3. send it to a gun smith

Thank you in Advance for the help.

It's kinda normal for them. Stoeger warrenty is about the worst in the country so good luck. A decent gunsmith could glass bed it to take out the play. Tape can also be used if a good Smith can't be found

It’s a sad state in the firearm industry at this time the price the gun in question is likely 600-700$ and for that money you basically get junk .
In 1974 I bought a browning citori for 315$ and in 77 I bought a win 101 for 479$ both are still shooting today with know issues and both have shot 1000’s of rounds and increased in value
The times they are a changing

How much was a new truck in 1974?

$11,800 was MSRP for a loaded GMC with a 454 in 1979 that I bought so in 1974 a new pick up would have been roughly $10K, maybe a bit less, and $400 is 4 percent of that. Today the equivalent of that new 1979 GMC would be around $75K give or take and 4% of that is $3000 and not far off what you would pay for a new Browning or Beretta. You might say $75K is low for a new truck today and that would be true but most new trucks are crew or extended cabs and the 79 GMC was a regular cab so I'm talking about the equivalent truck in this case.

My Dad bought a new Chevy 3/4 ton trailering special, 454, 4spd 2wd, factory buckets etc for $10,500. He also bought a new Chevy 3/4 ton in 1974, 350, 4x4 cheyanne super for $4500. This mean nothing when comparing the price of a new truck today because a new truck from the 70’s is not remotely similar to a new truck today. The spark plugs in a new truck today lasts longer than the whole truck on the 70’s. no real comparison in values can be made IMO.
