Christmas Sale GNG Carcano Moschetto

interesting front sight variation on the second one down. Lever release but with a button-release sight blade - liekely a transitional model.

Great stock markings on all those - I think you did really well with that batch. What's your earliest date?

3 of your 4 carbines have the earlier rear sight where it's placed closer to the receiver. The one with the different rear sight is likely WW2 production, right?

The top one with the really nice cartouche is a 1933, 2 are 1936 and I believe the last is a 1937. Yeah I’m pretty impressed with what I received. I actually ordered another 3 today. Hope I get some nice ones again. I’ll be sure to post those when I get them. Guess I’m becoming a carcano collector now haha.

Good show :) If you phone them, they'll likely agree to send you examples from years/makers you don't have, given how many you are ordering.

Just finished a detailed clean on mine as well. Some rust and pitting under the front barrel band and under the wood line. Overall, not too bad. The bore is in very good shape, not a lot of copper fouling. ( used WipeOut and Balistol with great results). Stock cleaned up good, I initially used vegetable cleanser to take off the top layer of grime ( works awesome!) and then scrubbed with Balistol.
Note the Italian Perona beer in honour of the Carcano…

Funny you mention that because I actually ordered the correct (adjusted for 100y) front sight post for my K11. I would have ordered a new calibrated front sight for the Carcano as well if they'd been readily available and decently priced

The Carcano has the front sight for 300m, which is around 16 to 18 inches too high at 100m. Does anybody know how much it exactly needs to be higher?

Otherwise I just put the Bushnell bore sighter on and go from there, that thing is quite accurate without wasting ammo.

On another note, I suspect the PPU ammo is either now using all .268 bullets or the SP has .264 bullets and the FMJ has .268 ones, can somebody measure please?

Look earlier in this thread. We measured current inventory ppu ammo and posted the results. All bought in the last month or so.

yes thanks, I found it. Looks like I was correct with my guess that the SP is 0.264 and the FMJ is 0.268. PPU changed it last year or so and they do have a #605 Carcano FMJ 0.268 on their web site but no SP.

No. Incorrect.

The fmj rounds for sale are .264. Ppu sells .267 bullets for reloading only in Canada. Not complete rounds - at least not yet.

The .264's seem to shoot much better than the .261 rounds they were selling last year.

Thanx Paul, it's tough being old and computer illiterate. Much appreciate the assistance

Hope you folks enjoy th pics.

The rifle is obviously a refurb as per the overstamped serial on the stock butt. Still, the barrel is prisine and the measurments confirm this.

Maybe it's been completely arsenal refurbed with a new barrel???

The only fly in the ointment so far is that it's packed with grease and there is an unfinished repair on the left side, just before the front sling ferrule. I think I'm going to just leave it as is and clean it up without trying to make it look much better.

IMHO, it's fine as is.

It's hard to see under normal light conditions but this stock cartouche doesn't read 1943 as I first thought.

It reads "FAET 1946" so it's definitely a post war refurb, which would be expected if it was issued to Italian police as the rumor goes.
