Tikka CTR Special Edition

I have owned many Tikka rifles over the years, with properly tuned hand loads I have never had an issue getting 1/2 MOA or better, both with factory barrels and the ones I swapped barrels out. I have even achieved that a couple times with factory barrels and factory ammo--until I ran out of that lot of ammo and the next lot was not as good! Like anything, even customs, a rifle's accuracy is a bot of a crap shoot, an unknown if you will until you find what it likes. I personally would not buy the SE version of a CTR, there is no value in the extras for me. You could also build a hell of a rifle by picking up any T3 on the EE, rebarreling with IBI, then drop it into your chassis of choice from MDT. I have produced several awesome shooting rifles doing this very thing!

I ended up picking up the CTR SE in 6.5CM . It was really the only local choice . I've recently finished a chassis rifle build in .308 and I really didn't want to go this route again . I found that process to be a bit of a long and drawn out grind . Rifle shoots great , but , I didn't want to chase people for 6 months again . So , I guess I'll have to learn 6.5CM now . We'll see how it does when I get some supplies and can start building some ammo . Thanks again for everyone's input on this matter .

If your going to really mod the CTR after purchasing, ie a chassis and/or aftermarket barrel, you may want to look at a base T3x. The CTR mags and bottom metal make up a bunch of its price, and if your going to swap it out anyway for a chassis that takes non-CTR mags, would be cheaper in the long run. Having said all that, I personally really like the CTR mags and bought a chassis where I was able to continue using them.

What chassis allows you to use CTR mag?
In the market for something like that myself.

KRG Bravo is available for that. I am sure there are others. The unfortunate part is the CTR Mags price, but I have heard that they do in fact perform better.

Boltgun

I actually went looking after I commented and found the KRG Bravo ctr mag model in stock at Go Big Tactical.
Watched some YouTube and think I'm leaning towards the MDT XRS. Even though it means more money and can't use my ctr mag.

I have the KRG Bravo on a CTR, and a MDT XRS on a rimfire. Both excellent. If your a big dude or have big hands, the MDT's grip will feel nicer. I needed to buy spacers for both to get the LOP I like, but I'm 5'18".

Just an update on the CTR SE . First time out today to break in the barrel and align the scope . I tried Winchester 140 Match to get the setup done but will never shoot it again . It did shoot below 1/2 MOA at 100M though ( 5 shot group ) .
The rifle came to life with basic hand loads though . 139 Scenar over N160 produced a sub 1/4 MOA , 5 shot group ( .171 MOA ) and a slightly milder load was .290 MOA . All were shot off a cheap bipod . So , a good start . We'll see how things progress at longer distances and with more tuning .

Nice! Sounds like a shooter
