303 Hunting Ammo

Anybody who used those old CIL IVI Sabre Tip bullets would argue a lot about meat damage badly. I seen so many deer and other animals blown up from the come into the butcher shop.

I have most of a box of the old Winchester Power Point, with the large aluminum tip. Not sure how those perform on animals but they don't seem to be available anymore. The modern Power Point looks to be a conventional exposed lead soft point.

I think you mean the old Winchester SilverTip. I have some of those available as well. Generally they don't have that great a reputation for performance on animals hence the reason they are not available as newly manufactured ammo any more. The aluminum tip tends to separate from the main core.

The standard Power Point is a better performer on game.

That aluminum "tip" is just a thin cap to keep the great BIG soft point underneath it from getting deformed in the magazine. They work extremely well on lung/heart shots, not so well on real heavy bone. Have a very dedicated following among deer and elk hunters around here. ...catnip

If they have an obvious aluminum tip ,they will be Silvertips. They could easily be in the wrong box after a few years, maybe not even the weight listed on the box either. There are a lot of people who would love to have those, treat them nice! Oh,one more thought, Winchester sold those bullets as reloading components at one time, check to make sure you don't have somebodies reloads in that box. That could account for the Silvertip loads in a powerpoint box ...catnip

OK, so the bullets may not be in the correct box. The box is marked as .308 but the bullets are for sure .311 (I mic'd them).

They are 180gr with a flat base, cannelure and a gigantic aluminum tip. These are bullets, not ammo.

I have 60 or 70 of these bad boys. So enough to work up a decent load but not enough to shoot them for fun. If I want to keep them for hunting, they need to be used sparingly.

I tried to buy some of the PRVI 180gr SP but Rusty Wood had just sold the last of them the day before. :(

Reliable has some S&B softpoints.

Sorry about that ,I just assumed you meant loaded rounds. An actual box of Silvertip bullets for reloading could get you mugged out here! Budget Shooter Supply has .303 cartridges (fmj only) in stock at the present, as well as a supply of bullets in .311. ....catnip

Budget Shooter also has the better pricing. I was ordering some other stuff from Rusty Wood and figured I'd combine the shipping costs.
