FOC creditcard fraud?

I ordered a prepaid MasterCard from my bank, small monthly fee but its only good to someone if I have funds on it. This one is going to be completely off-grid and doesn't even have my name on it, precisely what I need for somewhat dicey outfits where cash isn't an option.

Last time I used my CC at FOC was back in early sept. That was the last time that visa card was used at all!

Figured I dodged a bullet... Not so... Today there were a number of purchases from BC being made.. Card got flagged and cancelled.

Were they a little late getting to use my card number? ... Isn't anyone else experiencing this, this late after purchases?

Pain in the ass, still awaiting my replacement card.

It's why I posted in the sfrc forum and tenda forum how to pay by EMT.
Not as smooth as a cc payment

Friday the mother in law announced she was coming to Calgary for a visit , she lives 20 minutes away from the store, so she picked up my parts and paid cash. Thanks for the heads-up guys, I'm sure it's not their fault.

The breach wasn't, covering it up and deciding to cash in on the panic buying instead of protecting their customers 100% was.

I just made an account so I could finally comment on this thread.

I was the one who made the first post on Reddit that snowballed into this thread and I can't believe it's still going. When I posted on Reddit I thought I was just being paranoid and people were going to pass it off as nothing, but when the comments started pouring in I was like, holy ####, this wasn't just one or two instances.

What a mess.

So how does a merchant correct such a problem? Wouldn't that be the card companies' responsibility? Asking because I really don't know.

It's their responsibility to immediately stop the source of the leak, and then figure out or hire somebody to figure out how it happens and fix it, not the credit card company. Again the issue is not the breach itself, it's how they handled it.

They were made aware of it by Visa after about a week. They should have immediately stopped taking credit card payments and notified their customers. They didn't stop doing that for months afterwards and tried to take advantage of the panic buying. They only apologized after they were called out on it, and basically admitted that they acted unethically.

Breaches happen, and get fixed. It's the reality nowadays. But their reaction to it and in the aftermath of it getting exposed is completely opposite of what a business should do.

It would inspire more confidence if FOC were to tackle this in full, and up front.

I have bought from them in the past, but absent something concrete from them that acknowledges their poor handling of the situation = no thanks.
