In the market for an ATV in the 400 to 500 +/- range. Would be a new purchase. Apart from the big three (Honda Yamaha suzuki), does anyone have any thoughts or experiences with Argo ( I believe rebranded Taiwan manufacture), CFMoto (Chinese?). CanAm, Arctic Cat, Polaris are all possibilities. I was leaning towards the CanAm 570 but online reviews have me leery. I don't really see Argo or CFMoto as holding a candle to the others, but the prices I see are tugging at me to at least take a look.
Use would be light, one or two hunting trips a year, and some ice fishing, no serious off road or towing. Reliability and service are probably the two biggest factors.
South West Ontario, directly in the armpit.

You know this is going to end with everyone telling you to buy a Honda right lol

I don’t know about Argo quads but on principal I would avoid anything with that brand on it. Fool me once, okay twice, okay ten times

They call them argh-ooooh’s for a reason

I know people who are big fans of can-ams and Polaris who run their machines hard. I have had mixed experiences but I was also subjecting them to horrific abuses

Kawasaki’s I have had good luck with

You won’t be disappointed with the Cam am 570 and as a bonus it’s a v-twin.

I’ve owned Can Am’s since 2014 and have had no issues. Stay away from Argo / Arctic Crap and Polaris. I have buddies that own Honda’s and Yamaha’s as well and they are very reliable also.

A buddy of mine has a brand new Argo.........he says been in the shop more then he has ridden it.

I just got a 2020 Grizzly last year and so far it is a good unit. Before that I road an '06 Arctic Cat V2 650 for a lot of years. Can't say enough good things about that machine but not sure I would sink money into their new ones.

Are you looking new or used, I’ve been on many different types and know people who own most makes and models, soo I’ll throw my input in.
Argo’s go no where quick. People try to save money and buy a 6x6 only to wish they got the 8x8. not the easiest thing to work on.
CF moto people seem to say they are ok but they are not up to other manufacturers, and end up selling them for other makes quickly and you lose on resale value compared to other brands like Honda Yamaha and Polaris.
Suzuki kingquads amazing machines
Yamaha grizzly’s they had a rough couple years with there 708 motor not just with some people have motor issues but they were set further back and they were like steering a limo in the bush, not enough weight up front! I forget exactly the years I think it was 15-18 someone correct me if I’m wrong with my dates!
Honda great machines
Polaris we had one at work that got ridden hard for years and never let us down, and it was used harder and hauled more then it should, no issues, I know a lot of people with no issues and I know a lot with wiring issues! Soo i belive it’s a roll of the dice with Polaris, you get a good one your going to be laughin. But if you don’t……..
Every manufacturer has there ups and downs and flaws I’m not totally brand loyal I love Honda and have for many years
My dads 708 grizzly is garbage! It works great with tracks in the winter but summer time with tires in tight trails it doesn’t turn at all! My cousin new grizzly he loves it back to the old motor they went and it works well again!
Kodiak great machines but guys wish they got the grizzly!
I have a Yamaha x4, but still will tell ya not everything Yamaha is great. soo just decide what you want and narrow down and pick your poison and hopefully a dealer is not to far away frlm ya!

Grizzly 700 with power steering.
Rock solid and EASY to work on.
Can Am over priced, the rest of the stuff, arctic cat cf mot Argo sent with owning

Thanks for the input.
Some clarification- Argo refers to the 4 wheel atv, not the 6 or 8 wheel break down beast.
In my original post, I tried to exclude Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, because I didn't want the thread bogged down with posts stating the obvious. We all know they are the best, I was looking for anyone that ventured outside of the big 3.
Opinions on dealers are welcome. Again , I'm mainly concerned with the Windsor to London corridor. My brother bought a Suzuki King Quad from Bob's in Chatham and this is probably where I'll start.

How are Can am’s over priced?

2023 Yamaha Grizzly 700 EPS $13,999
2023 Can Am Outlander 850 DPS $13,799

The benefit of the Can am’s is that anything over a 570 is a v-twin. Most manufacturers are still using a single cylinder and if memory serves me correct Yamaha’s 700 is also a single cylinder.

Plus you’re getting a 78 HP motor with the 850, not sure what the 700’s HP is but I know it’s not 78 HP

Whatever you decide, there are still some supply and demand issues (though it’s slowly starting to get better). New ATV’s could take up to 6 months or longer (in some cases) to get so potentially you could have to wait for a new ride.

Cam am requires much more maintenance at shorter intervals due to materials used in production.
You'll be replacing diffs as often as I replace oil

Yep, that is what a friend of mine has, the Argo atv that breaks down constantly. I would stay away!

Kawasaki used to do a 650 v-twin then went op to the 750 v-twin. Lots of power on those.

I must be lucky then as the 3 Can Am’s I currently own haven’t had a single diff replaced (nor any of the ones I’ve previously owned). The only thing I’ve ever done is regular maintenance on all of them (fluid changes / air cleaner cleaning) oh and my 2016 850 had to have the front pads replaced last year.

I’m not crapping on the Yamaha as I think they’re a great machine also but if you want to go anywhere fast it won’t be on any of the three Japanese machine’s.

Find yourself a used canam?
I've thrashed mine and it still goes strong.
A 500 might be a little small too
You'd likely be wringing its neck to get it to go :)
