A wonderful, magical, happy thing happened to me.

I was given a FREE GUN!!!

And not just any free gun, a free pistol. :dancingbanana:

The long and short of it is, I was moving an elderly widow from her home (she was being placed into assisted living) and we came across this in a sock drawer.

After a long drawn out verification / transfer process I was finally allowed to take her home today.

All I know is that the original owner used this as a service revolver?

Prehaps as a New Brunswick Ranger? and prehaps during WW2.

I believe it's a S&W Military and Police revolver with 6 inch barrel - circa 1940's

She's chambered in .38 S&W

Has "SMITH & WESSON" on the right side of the barrel

"Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass USA
Patented Feb 6 06 Sept 14 09 Dec 29 14" On the top of the barrel

And "38 S&W CTG" on the left side.

Matching serials and various Smith & Wesson markings all around.

The action and lock up are still smooth as spit, with a very nice trigger!

What I want to know is do I have sometype of wartime relic or a common everyday six shooter...

Whats she worth?

Minty from what I can see!

Any idea on her value?

Not a great deal, perhaps in part due to the cost of factory .38 S&W these days. And also perhaps as there is seemingly more interest in autos vs older wheelguns, too. Our local dealer has 3 or 4 of the above in similar condition for around $250 each.

I've got a very similar vintage revolver.... a 'Victory' model chambered in .38 Special.

Personally, I really like the old S&W wheelguns.

Good score on saving that one you got!

S&W M&P 5th change made in 38 S&W for British Commonwealth 1940-42 when finish was changed to brush blue later to parkerizing.

If it was in service, it should have stamps to that effect. Either british or canadian markings. These are often refered to as "pre-victory". If it's canadian it should have a C broad arrow here...

Virtually identical to your's Demented.

No CND Broad Arrow that I can see. I'll look harder in the morning.

It does however have a "P" stamped on the bottom of the handle, opposite of the serial #
