Hi I think I just figured out how to embed the picture - I used a caldwell bag to rest the rifle - its completely stock except for the trigger spring - I have Weaver Kaspa 2-7x32 scope on it - when I go coyote hunting I keep it at 4x. I shoot out to 200 yards at 4x. I am going to buy another box of the ammo to try out at longer distances. My point of aim was the black square it was very windy that day (Sunday)

My Savage XP is able to shoot sub-MOA as well. Pretty impressive given the gun was purchased new for about $400 CDN. Good shooting on your end.

They are shooters once I bought my Axis a couple years back I've sold off my Tikka's since it was giving me good sub-moa 5 shot groups. The one I have was under $500 with taxes - am hoping to get to the range this week since I am off this week on a staycation.

cheers

Yes, the Savage Axis with the spring kit have the same performance as the Axis 2. They are excellent shooters. Right now everybody is excited about the Ruger Ranch because it accepts AK mags and has a threaded barrel (which is useless in both 223/556 and 7.62x39) but if you watch some youtube videos, they are not better than a Axis for double the price.

Ruger Ranch owners won't admit it but it is a cheap rifle with a horrible bolt movement and flimsy stock. Same for the one in 7.62x39, accurate but basically a $500 rifle, pig with some make up.

Some people just love make up, ask my partner, she is a beautiful girl and ruins her face with all those "beauty products". Of course I always say it looks amazing since I am trying to avoid the dog house or worse.

My nephew has one of the first generation Savage Axis in .223, and using Hornady 55gr. Varmint (factory) ammo it shot shoulder-to-shoulder with my Savage 10 Precision Carbine .223 shooting hand loads. Memorable for sure. That Savage Axis has accounted for a good number of Ontario groundhogs ever since. lol

Been trying to convince him to buy a Tikka, he can't be convinced. Rightfully so!

Very nice groups OP, especially for factory ammo. I'm frequently the first person to sing the praises of the Axis, but they've gone up in price so much... When I got my Axis XP with the factory bushnell scope, I paid $289+tax, and it came with a $50USD mail in rebate so at the end of the day it cost me about $235 for a complete rifle and scope. That was about 8 years ago now mind you, and it was from Wholesale Sports who used to have FANTASTIC sales... My buddy also got an Axis for like $225 at one of Reliable's big ass annual sales, no optic/rings/mounts but its stainless which is kinda nice.

When I bought my Axis they were like $300 guns and a sporterized rifle with a scope (6.5x55 or 8x57 mausers, enfields, etc) was like $300-400. Today, the Axis is over $500 ($599 is the sticker price at Cabelas for a base model XP right now) and a sporterized rifle w/scope is still like $300-400. Of course sporter rifles come with higher ammo costs and harder to find ammo, so depending on how you factor that into your equation it may or may not be cheaper in your eyes.

The one thing I could never get over with the Axis is how heavy the bolt lift is. I had a Mossberg ATR100 and Remington 783, neither had that issue. I sold the Mossberg and Remington to get a left-handed hunting rifle, so I don't really use my Axis these days but its the one I kept out of my small collection of $235 budget bolt actions so that says something.

Mine is a 270 Winchester. Never found it to be sub-moa with the factory ammo I tried, but with handloads it was all you could ask for and more. 130gr Ballistic Tips and Interbonds are sub-moa, 150gr partitions were even better, as you can see below:

Yet to find one that won’t shoot. My brother in law stiffened the stock and did the trigger spring fix. That .223 shoots one hole groups with 55gr noslers over benchmark. He payed $189.00 on sale with a rebate, he topped it off with a Nikon buckmaster 4-12..about the cheapest rig Going but one of the best shooting guns I’ve seen. And you could say it might be the shooter but it really isn’t. That boy can’t hit a coyote to save his life but lay that Savage Axis over a bag off a bench it shoots one hole groups.
I have accurized several of these guns and with some fine tuning and a hand tailored load. They have all shot sub MOA.
These were all first gen rifles not sure if the accuracy has continued in the newer rifles with the adjustable stock?
These were fun guns, cheap to buy and easy to work on. I would never pay the prices they are asking for them now. I’d sooner invest in a rifle with better fit and finish.

Nice groups
I paid $499 plus tax a couple years ago for the one I have now from a former site sponsor during covid/lockdowns to help the vendor out - they are more expensive these days along with every thing else - I really enjoy the Axis - going to try out more factory ammo before the weekend

Here is an update from this morning shooting my hand loads and factory winchester ammo at 200 yards.

I can not wait to go out coyote hunting in March with this rifle any coyote within 300 yards will be fair game.

Probably the greatest gun ever made, and the only one capable of this accuracy. Does it with style and great ergonomics as well
