Scope + Rings Reccomondation for CZ 457 Canadian?

I played around at the range today. At 100y you CAN see 0.22 holes IN WHITE PAPER with ~7 power. Easy at 9,much easier at 14+. I assume this means you want 14 at 200,21 at 300etc. Luckily my scopes are 3-9 and 6-24.

If shooting steel, much less. Your slag will make about a 1/2" impact at minimum.

Thanks for the report, this is what I wanted to know. I'll likely going with something in the middle ground like a 4-16x. or 3-15x to be low enough for hunting but high enough for 200m targets.

OP also wants to use it for hunting...
- I guess he'd need to specify what he wants to hunt. Chasing rabbits and grouse in the wood with a 36x would be "interesting"

Grouse mostly. Definately need something I can crank down to 3-4x so I can actually see what I'm shooting at.

Don't do much longer distance shooting... but for casual range use and hunting. I kind of like the older Leupold 3.5x10 (with the AO) Smaller/lighter than many of the newer offering Don't really like the big eyepiece many of new scopes have.

Bushnell is a pretty good back for you $, they often have sales.

One scope that's been bugging is the Meopta MeoPro Optika5 2-10x42

- Focus down to 10 yards

Hunting rifles and range rifles are generally two different animals. My bunny and grouse rifle is a stainless savage with a 2-7 power scope. For the range with anything .22 caliber I prefer a higher magnification for just punching paper. Even for coyote hunting the max I’d carry afield is 14x top end. That’s just me, I did my share of carrying bulky rifles with overweight scopes in the field for coyote hunting and I’m totally over that. I have never found a good compromise when trying a whopper scope on a trim hunting rig. I’d look for a 4-12 at max and be done with it!

Ok savage mkii questions. Do u still use the supplied stock?
Your opinion of the mkii fv sr heavy barell version. I think there is a newer model, forget the model, it uses a rotary magazine and the stock looks much better. Your opinion please?
I was looking at ruger american and cz. The models were running 700$ to 800$ but with keeper stocks. Im pumping the brakes cause I hear a lot or good stuff about savage accuracy. There is a model with a boyds stock, any imput on that.
I am tryong to find a diamond back tactical ffp because I want to check out the eye box unforgiving line up.
This on a 22, I plan to use it also on a t3 varmit or some such higher cal rifle.

NS, did you make a decision for your scope ?

I'm starting to weigh my options for the ideal scope and rings setup for my CZ457 Canadian.

It will be used primarily for small game hunting and plinking out to 200m max.

I would also like to eventually get into Mapleseed and PRS so if there is such a thing as a dual function hunting/long range scope that would be ideal. If not I could throw my 6-24x Diamondback on it for those purposes.

Criteria:
Scope Budget - $500
Weight - The lighter the better
Magnification - sufficient to hit targets out to 200m. Would a 3-9 be sufficient? 4-12?
Rings - What do owners of the Canadian style stock prefer for height? Can I get away with low rings or will I be interfering with the bolt throw? Also are the rings for the CZ propriatary or could I use the likes of Vortex?

Also in terms of ammo and as someone who has only shot bulk CCI/Blazer, what are some more premium options to get better accuracy out of a bolt gun?

Cheers,

I haven't yet but I am leaning more towards hunting and general plinking vs precision style shooting.

I want something that falls in the middle ground, more than a 3-9x but less than a 6-24x and looking to spend less than the rifle ($700).

Why not a bushnell match pro for 550$ used. Best glass under 1k. Stop zooming at 16x if you want, that's what I do.
