For some reason I have in my head building a wildcat .375 cal cartridge by expanding a .308 case. Starting with a .358 winchester case would use fewer steps.
Is there a given name for such a cartridge and has anybody build one?

I believe you are thinking of the 375 Raptor:

I've got a brand new 375 cal mold that would be cool to use for this project, but I'll almost certainly never get around to doing it. I figured a Savage model 10 in 308 would be a good place to start. All you'd need is a new barrel in .375. When shooting cast, the case volume of the 308 cartridge should be ideal.

welllll......... the 358 starts eating case capicity with anything over 225gr an most the .375s are in the 235+ region an even then 250gr is starting to get long?

i think its more suited to the -06 Case aka 375 whelen, but im sure the 375-08 is doable, depends on what ya want out of it :)

I do have a .358W and it's a great cartridge in itself. Also having a 9.3x62 seems to negate the need for a .35 Whelan. I've been digging around on other forums this morning and have found what I'm looking for...the .375-08 Jaguar. 225gr. at 2500fps (not much different than the .358W) and 300gr at 2000fps. The latter is what I'm looking for, to be built on a Remington or Ruger short action. Also interested in using cast bullets, so I will be investigating this idea further. Thanks all for your input.
