7.62x39 sale at Cabela's

Lol its cheaper in edson (invictus sports)
$13 for 30 rounds and its on stripper clips

Yeah but then you gotta go to Edson, I’ll pass on that lol.

All the 7.62x39 I've ever shot or bought has been corrosive.

Your not buying the right stuff then

I trust Chinese ammo to be non-corrosive like I trust politicians to be honest.

The norc red box and all the white box I’ve shot has been non corrosive, pretty accurate for bulk x39 surprisingly enough.

The Norinco Red Box "Non-Corrosive" has never been corrosive for me. Small sample size of about 1500 rounds.

Lots of threads on the Norinco

-White box is mixed bag. Def some corrosive in there
-Red box non corrosive. High confidence as many here have done testing

Always reminds me of the bashing of the Chiappa M1-9. Something which happened 10 years ago might not be true today even if you report the most logic and personal experience to back it up. CGN is a troll farm at times.

The only norc ammo I’ve shot that was sold as non corrosive was new production x54r that Canam sold, turned out to be a mixed bag of corrosive and non corrosive primers as I recall. All of the crates I bought were corrosive, I did a couple random sample nail tests before I shot it and all rusted. I bought it after it came out as corrosive and Canam adjusted pricing or refunded anyone that wanted to, this was circa 2011-2012 iirc.

Any norc x39 I’ve had has been non corrosive, between nail tests and not cleaning an sks for a couple years I’ve seen zero rust show up. This has been my personal experience, others results clearly differ from mine.

I remember reading (on CGN) that there was some question about this ammo being non-corrosive in spite of how it's labelled. Anyone remember that conversation or the outcome?

I do not

Up until a few years, ago Norinco had a bad batch of white box, headstamp 311 18, that said it was non-corrosive, but it contained rounds that were corrosive.

Since 2019, when it was switched to red box, the headstamps 311 19 and 311 20 are absolutely NOT CORROSIVE. I have shot literally thousands (1446 of 311 19 and 1902 of 311 20) of rounds and not cleaned my piston tube, rod, breech, barrel, etc. for weeks No corrosion.

Here is where Cabela's fell down a bit. Until very recently (like now), they were selling the red box, but the stock photo in the ad was white box. So all those people who bought white box 311 18 were incensed to see that Cabela's was supposedly selling the same rounds that they bought that had some corrosive mixed in. I am glad Cabela's changed the photo, but there will still always be people who wonder based on bad experiences.

The biggest thing is not to mix and match. If you only shoot 311 20 (which I believe is what Cabela's now carries) in red box, you will be fine. Don't shoot anything else with it. Some have done that - mixed in a bunch of Norinco copper washed including some older corrosive rounds from boxes that say otherwise, and they think the newer stuff is corrosive.

I can't speak to the really old yellow and silver box stuff. The white box I have shot that is absolutely non corrosive is 311 14. Other than that, I don't know about any other white box except 311 18, which stores don't sell anymore, but be careful buying it off the secondary market.

Now, any Chinese 7.62x39 from a spam can, I can almost guarantee it is corrosive. At the very least presume it is.

For those who can find it, the Russian Barnaul / MFS, Tulammo brands are all non corrosive but they will cost more and you can't find it in retail channels commonly anymore (the 7.62x39 Barnaul that is). If you can find some older Dominion branded ones - those are good too and also come in soft points if you can find them.

Free shipping, non corrosive, I figured it was a decent buy.
Funny I posted the Browning labelled 9mm for 18 a box and people did the same as this thread.

Some people just can't be pleased.

I know! I bought a bunch of the Browning 115 and someone PMed me and said "did you know those things have recalls?" I checked the lot numbers (since I record them in my inventory spreadsheet anyway) and it was not the affected lot numbers. I shot all the boxes and not one hiccup. They ran a bit dirty, but I think the Brownings are Odin/Winchesters, so kind of white box dirty, but ran fine.

People have to look at the context of an issue and realize when it is isolated and when it is systemic.

Unless something has changed Cabelas doesn't do free shipping on Ammo. And if it has please let me know how so I can order some.

Currently free shipping on $149 of spend. There is a discount code on the main Cabela's page.

I have ordered upwards of 30-40 boxes of ammo at a time and it has shown up free shipping.

I have read some others who have reported either ordering so many quantities that it needs to come on a skid - that they were charged extra on that...and I believe (I could be wrong) I read someone who lives out in a rural area with an rural address that was subsequently charged extra. I can't validate either of these experiencially but I can validate that I have bought 30-40 boxes of ammo at a time and used the free shipping code with the minimum spend (doesn't include taxes) and there were no issues.

Ive ordered small quantities many times and never been charged (as long as i met whatever the free shipping $ threshold was that day)
E.g. Small quantities being 5-15 boxes

Just make sure that you key in the promo code for free shipping. It changes regularly and is usually in the header of the webpage

Im sure there is a threshold somewhere but i haven't hit it

For the record this ammo has been on sale off and on non-stop for the last few months at least. If its not on sale this week, it'll probably be on sale next week, or during their weekly Wild Wednesday sales. So if you're looking for some x39 and its $15/box at Cabelas, there is a very good chance it'll be on sale again shortly based on past experience.

And they virtually always have a free shipping over $149 coupon code available, with the occasional over $49 code.

I can walk to Cabelas in 15 minutes though. Google maps estimates it'll take me 198 hours to walk to Edson... lol

if only there was a person... nay a business, that would transport things from one place to the other on your behalf... then you wouldn't have to walk 198 hours to pick up ammo....

Also...hit the store up on the way to the range... the only 1 mile range in alberta... with a 180 degreee pistol range rated for steel and up to .308

Unless you order more ammunition by weight than what the ups driver is allowed to lift by union rules ,it ships free on orders over $149, sign up for the emails and you'll get a 1 day heads up on free shipping over $49.... usually a Wednesday.
If your wishing to order larger amounts, just make multiple orders.

I wonder what that weight threshold is with UPS drivers. I had an order two years ago that I ordered from one of our site sponsors. 1000 rounds of 9mm, so 20 boxes of 50 in the typical rectangular box. I still have my Ring video of the UPS driver, a lady literally heave it onto my porch. One corner of the box sustained a huge dent. Guess she was really engrossed in the conversation she was having on her airpods about annoyances with her boyfriend.

I would have thought it takes more effort to heave it up the steps than to walk up the steps and place it down gently. But again...boyfriend problems...maybe she was taking it out on my poor ammo delivery.

It appears that they don't have a webstore, so even if such a magical transporting things company existed it would be pretty hard to make use of their service...

Did you receive them? The people affected aren't told immediately, you will get a separate email if you are outside the seemingly arbitrary areas that qualify.

Before ordering make sure your in a UPS serviced postal code.
It's not arbitrarily decided.

Last crate of 1440 I bought was like 275$CAD seems like ages ago now lol.
Need another deal like that.
Some more boxes of 7.62x54 would be nice too never know may need it in the future.

Oh don't worry I'm signed up for the emails, I just always went by what they said their shipping policies were and never tried. I'll have to test this out one day, thank you kindly for the heads up everyone.
