Most accurate 22LR $500 or less

My wife has taken a liking to accurate 22 shooting, and I am looking to surprise her with a decent rifle. I've seen a few of the mark iis, and they seem great. Likely put a scope around 200ish on top. Would love to get her a ruger precision, but it is just out of price range.

What do you guys run? She is a better shooter than myself, so something with a high ceiling would be ideal

Well, right now there is a CZ452 for $600.00 , that’s a hundred over your limit that will shoot lights out anything else for the money you mention.
Problem is it is a heavy barrel….
But, it will be accurate with most anything you feed it, unless your going to put Lexington teller jackets through it.
Then all bets are off.
It isn’t my gun and the guy is leaving money on the table at $600.00 in my opinion.
Go look at it.

Personally, I would look around for a fine used/vintage rifle. There are some outstanding ones out there.

If the rifle is a surprise for your wife, IMO save up a bit longer and get her something that will not only be accurate but won’t be a source of frustration.

Savage Mark 2, I've had 2x FV-SR models, only extraction issue I every had was with waxy CCI ammo in the cold, I have run full bricks of Center-X through them flawlessly without cleaning. The Norinco NS522 is a very accurate gun if you could even find one, last one I bought was $199, search the NS552 thread, it's probably the biggest rimfire thread created here on CGN!

The suggested CZ add from the EE look like a pretty good deal! I really like this Nikon scope that i use for small game hunting. Head shot on grouse up to 50 meters when i do my part. I'm using the Nikon with a Browning T-Bolt.

Getting your wife to love shooting is the best way to be able to go to the range on a regular basis!

My wife and I both run Savages 22lr, a MkII and a newer B model with the rotary mag. I added a spring on both bolts to help with extraction and that has pretty much resolved the issues. Simply piggy-back the new spring over the old one and it's done.

I use the Marlin XT22 and seems to be accurate for me.

^^^ +2 for the Xt22, my xt22vr has been amazing. It was sub $300 when I bought it but I’m sure they’re a bit more now if you can find them. Not sure what availability is like with the whole Ruger buyout, has been very accurate with pretty much everything I’ve put through it. Cci mini mags and federal AE or Automatch especially for the bulk .22 catagory, it’s been a bunny slayer to say the least. I came in just under $500 for the gun, rings and scope. So for 1/2”-3/4” accuracy @ 50y on average it’s hard to beat.

From what I remember the target below was with either mini mags or a flavour of Eley .22lr while I was trying to beat the 1/2” @ 50y rimfire challenge, it’s the closest I’ve come and the flyer was my fault lol.

Good recommendation. Any specific place you would recommend getting the spring from?

+1 for a used CZ even if its a little over your budget.

Used/vintage Russian rifles are well built, pretty reliable and accurate.

Savage MK 2 FV (heavy barrel, no iron sights, plastic stock) is on sale at Cabelas for the next two weeks.

I've got two MK2s, one is the basic F model, the other is an stainless heavy barrel in a laminate stock. Great guns for the money. I have had extraction issues, but only with two types of ammo. I've probably run 15 different types of ammo through my first one, and only winchester wildcats and cci mini mags gave me any issues. Haven't put much through my 2nd one, I mostly shoot CCI Standard in my bolt actions and I've had no issues with that in either gun.
