Well, with the initial cost of the gun Dlask's bill was right around $550. With tax and postage close to a grand. I figure about $200 -$500 less than what I would spend on a similarily equipted Colt/Springer/STI/Para and not have a custom gun.
The beauty is there are other guns you don't have to go that route to compete effectively with. My Tanfoglio Model "L" is a case in point. Outstanding accuracy, well made and around a grand when I bought it. Of course the two Conversion Kits might have been an over obundance of ego but I now have three guns in one. The D/A trigger remains badly in need for a tune up but the S/A pull is crisp and light enough. Great gun for ESP and with a trigger job would be very effective in IPSC Production. If I change out the springs which is legal in IDPA I could use the gun in SSP division where it would be very competitive. With the .22LR Conversion Kit I have managed one win and one 2nd in our little idpa club matches. Very finicky about the type of ammo you use - mine does not like HP ammo and high velocity cartridges only.
The Tanfoglio Sport, a gun one of our shooters has gone to is another great choice. Sights are better than the CZ 85 but not so the trigger IMHO. To bad the factory doesn't do something in that regard. Lighter mainspring would help.
If I didn't own a handgun and was wanting to shoot IPSC Production or IDPA SSP I am not sure the S&W M&P in 9MM or .40cal if you reload, isn't the best buy around right now. Gun seems to be durable and S&W is making changes as problems develop which is a plus and standing by their product when problems do arise.
For IDPA CDP the new STI 1911 Spartan had got to be one of the best buys around. Bclineman has one and is very satisfied with his. Para has a model or two that can compete at this price pont as well but I haven't seen any evidence the dealers are passing along the price reductions Para made at the wholesale level. To bad really as Para makes a good gun.

ps Sorry Smoking Gun missed the "Open" part. I suspect it has been a few years since anyone tried to compete with a single stack in Open Division in IPSC/USPSA never mind the make.
