Putin and the oligarchs have had fun pillaging Russians state arsenals to pay for their yachts and luxury cars - and now new conscripts are going to Ukraine having only fired 6 bullets in training, due to ammo shortages.

I wonder if Russia wants its surplus ammo back? Sorry its mine now.

I've watched a ton of combat footage from both sides, other than the few random photos of soldiers with mosins, just about every single video has been an AK in 5.45x39, not 7.62x39, unfortunately we were never privi to anything in 5.45x39 over here.

Most surplus ammo we have received in the west came from Ukraine, ex USSR and ex-Warsaw countries. Russia has been more reluctant to sell - every now and again pictures come out of the nice WWII surplus they have stashed away...

Anyhow, I'm sure they'd take it if you wanted to send it free but they are not desperate. To illustrate, I know a dealer in Georgia (country not state) that has been trying to sell "surplussed" 7.62x39 by the container and not doing too well with his prices - there's no real desperation for 7.62x39 out there. Even the Ukrainians don't want it.

The guys with Mosin's are volunteers for the DPR.

This is the perfect example of "beggars can't be choosers"

UKraine and Russia both will use whatever they can

Except its hard to use 7.62x39 when everyone has rifles in 5.45... It would be like the Canadian Military running low on ammo and someone offering a bunch of 303 brit...

China and North Korea will ship all the small
arms ammo they could ever need
Easy to use a Russian die to stamp the brass
