M14's?

A real M14 is capable of firing in full automatic mode (or was once able to)

The M14S that you can buy from Marstar and other places (and the springfield armory M1A model) is unrestricted unless it has a barrel under 18.5"

actally, neither- the m14 needed a kit to go full auto- as it came from the factory, she's a SEMI-AUTO- THE KIT WAS ISSUED WITH THE RIFLE IN A BAGGIE ATTACHED TO THE TRIGGER GUARD and removed when issued-it's because the BATF STATESIDE LISTS IT AS A MACHINE GUN and title 3 there and CANADA FOLLOWED WHAT THEY SAID instead of actually looking

you can buy those baggies

for about $110 on the web

yea , but GETTING IT HERE is a different story- and the ones here have selector welded shut and the little wing that engauges the trigger group ground off- now i don't want to discuss what's involved to make it work

FA recievers are different than semi ones. The take down notch is in a different location (on the rails as opposed to the Garand location as on a semi) and there is a metal support on the reciever for the FA parts.

It takes moe than a baggie of parts to make a FA M14.

no, it doesn't if you know what you're doing- my first issue norc ( which is a semi) has the take down notch in EXACTLY THE SAME PLACE as my isreali m14s( that's as in PLURAL, not m14s) and is only missing the aft connector lug and related components - the rest of the trigger group mirrors the isreali ( us ) m14 exactly- and about 10 seconds with a dremel and i'll give you a take down notch- and we were dicussing REAL M14 RIFLES AS THEY CAME FROM THE FACTORY- AS ISSUED TO US TROOPS, OR AT LEAST STRANGEDAY AND I WERE- YOU ARE REFERRING TO AN M1A, AS MANUFACTURED BY SPRINGFIELD

t-star: Rodger that. In the end though, it takes a fair bit of metal work to allow a commercial (Springfild, LRB, Smith, Most Norc) to accept the parts in question.

I thought Norinco called them M305s, not M14s. - dan

depends on which norc you're talking about- some are stamped m14s, some 305, and like mine( i think it was made by the chinese version of the cia- lol) say nothing at all- just the norc star and a serial number

"...The M14S that you can buy from Marstar..." Neither an M305 or its predecessor the M14S is an M14. They're copies. An M1A isn't an M14 either.
A real M14 is selective fire, battle rifle. As such it's prohibited. A semi'd real M14 is prohibited too, being a former MG.

one of the last "fights" DAVID A TOMLINSON of the NFA HAD/IS STILL PENDING was to have the m14 removed from the prohibitied list - his"arguement" was that the m14 AS IT CAME FROM THE FACTORY was not SELECT FIRE , but had to be MODIFIED by means of the "baggie" kit and , and therefore, was the same as ANY SEMI-AUTOMATIC- and, since the baggies had NEVER been issued, these m14s were NEVER CONVERTED AND NEVER MACHINE GUNS- therefore the c/a status should only apply to those rifles WHICH HAD THE KITS INSTALLED- all this was in the nfa magazine shortly before he passed

Are M14 restricted in Ontario? or prohib.?:sucks:

Wow. We've managed to obscure, obfuscate, and render obtuse the answer to a very simple question.

The M14/M14S/M305/Norinco-Stinko semi-auto 7.62X51mm rifles that Marstar sells are not restricted. Neither are the ones that Springfield Armories sells.

The old US army issued M14's are prohibited. You need to know what you're dong to tell the difference. Nobody s likely to try to sell you one of these, and you probably don't want one since you're not allowed to take it to the range anymore.

If you want one, buy one. You can probably get one at a reasonable price over the next year or two. Shoot it. Enjoy it. Hunt with it if that's what floats your boat. There's a ton of information on these rifles in the stickies at the top of this forum.

Let's not continue our little "who can contradict the largest number of people on the most obscure points of firearms trivia" contest. We're accomplishing about as much as a crew of chimps flinging feces at each other. :D

:dancingbanana: :dancingbanana: that my friend is the quote of the day !! :D :D

and well put i might add.

on a side note, my new marstar sourced 2007 date stamped Norinco... is stamped "M14 .308 Norinco" no mention of m305, no "s" designation.... just found it interesting
these are great guns for the current market value, buy one or two or 5..... your result will be the same and you will find you have the urge to buy more ammo :D

Ya'all remember when the sks's started rollin outta the containers by the thousands here in canada in the early 90's??? These same discussions about the norinco sks were taking place back then..... minus the internet mind you. All the nay sayers were trashin the "cheapo commie , can't hit a barn, junk, junk, junk" chinese built fake siminov sks rifles...... Well, a decade and a half later, this same "commie POS" has survived through war fare around the world and how many of us now, have no shame in admitting they own at least one of those low quality chinese sks rifles  ? you see my point, and the quality of the norinco m14 type rifles is way better than the sks rifles we have seen from china.
