1301 comp barrel shortening?

Especially since by shortening you lose the Mobilchoke...

I believe it's actually the Optima choke, but you are right you would need to have it re-threaded for a new choke and I am not aware of anyone in Canada that does Optima choke pattern so you would need to change it to Pro-Bore or something similar.

Lol, I was just thinking about this recently myself. Getting a 21" comp chopped down to 18.5". I really like the vented rib and auto loader... But the 1301 barrels are chrome lined, not sure if that would throw a wrench into things, but an expensive barrel to be experimenting with.

Its your money, spend how you wish... however, my unsolicited opinion is that you would end up with a shotgun worth half of what it currently is. Would be losing chokes, which is really everything with a shotgun. Even if you had the 2.5'' shorter barrel re-cut for chokes, no one would be interested in buying that unless a serious discount. Going from a 28'' gun to a 20 or 18 is noticeable, going from 21 to 18.5 is not a big deal with a long gun. Either way good luck, and if you decide to wreck a $2000 shotty, please post the pics!

Concur on all points...

Isn't 18.5" the shortest you could legally cut a semi barrel to? If so, I would think you'd be better served with a 1301 tactical rather than a comp. The biggest difference between the two is the rib/bead vs the ghost ring setup. Other than that the guns are virtually the same.

This way you keep choke options, and If you needed comp style furniture or controls there are probably tons of them out there as many people swap parts.

Just my opinion. But do what you want, I bought a nice Smith 29-2 a few years ago and cut the barrel down to 4.5" because I wanted as close as I could get to Elmer Keith's.
