Provinces that do allow baiting bears?

Probably been covered before. But just wondering what provinces do or don’t allow it? It’s a fine and probably loose your gun thing if you’re get caught here in BC. I’m not against it but I’m not sure I’d have the time and patience to do all that prep work.

Of corse the difference in laws from one province to another still makes me wonder what the...... Like the no hunting on Sunday???

Bear baiting is allowed in Nova Scotia.

As penance for starting a bit of a derailment, I should add that baiting for bear is legal in Ontario as well.

I'd imagine that it's pretty much an east vs. west thing. In general, spot and stalk for bears is extremely hard to impossible in the forests of the east. Out west you also have some thick forests, but also mountainsides where it's possible to glass up a bear and move in for a shot.

Baiting black bear is legal in many WMU's in Alberta, but not in mountain areas where the baiting of grizzly bears is illegal.

BC doesn't restrict bait all that much:

20. To intentionally feed or attempt to feed dangerous
wildlife (cougar, coyote, wolf, and bear), except
when lawfully engaged in hunting or trapping
where baiting is authorized (cougar, coyote and
wolf only).

21. To hunt bears by placing bait or by using a dead
animal or using part of it as bait.

43. To hunt migratory game birds within 400 m of any
place where bait has been deposited unless that
place has been free of bait for at least 7 days.

It is unlawful to intentionally feed or bait ungulates
or turkeys in the Kootenay Region, except under
permit.

It is unlawful to intentionally feed or bait ungulates
in the Cariboo Region within 200 m of a dwelling,
school yard, or playground.

I think that's it, I'm skipping the trapping regs.

No corn in BC north of Quesnel that I know of, might be some in the Peace River country. Oats are good to hunt here if you talk nice to the farmer. But road hunting dandelions or walking huckleberry patches for me when at their peak it can be hard to get away from bears. Seen almost 20 in a hour around teardrop lk last year.

Oh the things that people use. A source from a movie theater to get you the left over popcorn (or make your own)and add some smell to it. Anise and molasses are great coverings for popcorn. Make them dig it out of a 5 inch hole of a 45 gallon barrel chained to a tree. Tim Hortons discards is another source. Video trail cam and enjoy hours of entertainment.
All I do is make a fawn in distress call and they come a running. It is my voice and not a electronic caller.
Alberta has fewer bears, so a need to bait them in is required.
