Budget Red Dot

I have had a TRS-25 on my PCC for a long time now. No complaints, it does what it needs to do. The Romeo 5 has nice features like shake-awake and longer battery life. Make sure you get the low mount version though.

I don't know if you noticed, but that's USD and a US vendor. They generally can't ship to Canada. Here's Canadian site, about twice that price. - http s://www.amazon.ca/s?k=romeo+5+red+dot&crid=3OV2074HLQ7FG&sprefix=romeo+5+%2Caps%2C106&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_4_8
The TRS-25 is fine for your 'firsttime'. I use a $56 one from Amazon that 'does the job'but it's 3-MOA DOT which covers a lot at 50yds - http s://www.amazon.ca/Feyachi-Reflex-Sight-Adjustable-Reticle/dp/B01HPWATOC/ref=sr_1_13?crid=382MG06EPMWGA&keywords=red+dot+sight&qid=1678200053&sprefix=red+dot%2Caps%2C155&sr=8-13

I have gone Vortex just because of the warrantee

The Sparc II regularly goes on sale at Cab for $199

If you want to browse what's out there i suggest you check the cabelas site (red dot section) vs Amazon then look at site sponsors for better pricing

I should add that I only paid $75 for my TRS-25s. For the $150ish they seem to go for now I would definitely buy something else, like the Sparc or R5.

Exactly - The TRS25 is worth every penny of $75, they're actually pretty stout. Used at $100 is probably still a good deal. And I think it's still got a lifetime warranty.

Sig Sauer Romeo5 has shake awake and excellent battery life. With those features I think they dominate the under-$250 price point. They're often on sale at Cabelas for $180.

After that I'd probably skip up market to the Holosun and Vortex options at $400. But you don't need to spend this much on your first RDS unless you just like nice things.

exactly!

nothing wrong with a TRS-25, i just think that when you are ~$200 incl tax, I'd sped the extra $20 for a Sparc II or Romeo 5

if you budget $250 all in to your door, you can get a pretty good red dot

alflahertys had the sparc 2 for 199 as well today and i bought it.

Thanks a lot everyone. i saved about 150 by not getting backpacker version of ruger and spent on optics.

Did you consider used aimpoints?
Like the t4 h4 or comp models?
When well used they can get ''cheap'' for what they are.

This and the VS II is a solid RDS. Ran it on a GS Scout for years and now swapped it to 1301T. No issues handling recoil, outstanding battery life and holds zero. You can drop it onto any platform imo and it will hold up.

I went down to Al's to take a look at the SPARC2. Was planning on mounting a fixed 4x scope (I have kicking around) on my TD but decided on a RD.
For $199 the SPARC2 came home with me.

The dial for adjusting the dot intensity was difficult to turn on the TRS-25 I had.

Romeo5 for the win with shake awake & long battery life.

Keep in mind that the Cabelas sale only includes the HIGH mount... I use the low mount on my Ruger PCC.

Cheers
Jay
