My bullet will not get closer than 100 thou from lands

Should have done that before I panicked.
Didn’t realize the OAL would be that much different from bullet to bullet

I understand that the ogive contacts the lands, I was just using the OAL as a reference point.

You got it now COAL is mostly for manufactures to follow for magazine box length for feeding .
As you know now the ogive is what you need to reference too mostly .
Good you learned something new
Keep us informed on how that new SALVAGE shoots please . RJ

You might want to confirm that after seating a bullet, there is clearance in the neck area to allow bullet release to be safe. If tight, outside neck turning will resolve this issue.

Enjoy the barrel.

Jerry

Yes the bolt throw is stiff, even with factory ammo.

Salvage! Lol.
First round of testing not so good, best two groups were 1 1-4 MOA.
Gonna try the same powder/ bullet combos , only closer to the lands and a bit hotter.

45C - if it matters to you - the Woodleigh reloading manual suggests using a "jump" from .020" to .040" for their bullets - page 41 - is typical to use that to find best powder load, then with that best powder load, to fine tune the "jump" - seating deeper or shallower - to see if you get improvements on the target. Some makers like Barnes suggest .050" jump for their mono-metal bullets - so is some variation in recommendations. But the process appears start with an "okay" jump first, then refine the powder load, then refine the "jump".

Don’t be afraid of jump, my Savage jumps a ton and shoots great. To find jump, small amounts of change are needed only, or you can skip right past a good one.

Problem I’m running into is data for the 7 PRC.
I’m basically wingin it off the Hornady site.

WTH ? Scope loose ? RJ

That’s what I first thought.lol
It was torqued to spec in MDT rings.
It’s the reticle in the scope that’s actually rotated. The dot is still centered though.. lol
It was fine on my .223 but I guess the strain of the 7 PRC was to much for her to bear

HA! Might find your groups will IMPROVE with a scope only change !:p;) RJ

Oops…. LolView attachment 663783

That’s not from the tube moving.
Now I gotta start from scratch.
150 rounds down the drain.

It's sort of a blessing in disguise. I wish every scope that I've broken would have castastropically failed so I could have quit sooner. You can burn a lot of components and barrel and time fighting a fight that you can't win, and then a lot more proving that was the problem.
