Just bought a Dillon 650 XL at a local gun show. Too good of a deal to pass up..I’ll spare you guys the misery of knowing how much lol. I’m looking for help identifying some of the spare parts and stuff.

I’ve reloaded a fair amount of rifle ammo (.223, 6.8spc, and 6.5CM) with my Lee turret press and Coax press. I didn’t expect to give into the world of progressive presses, but as I said..couldn’t pass it up! The seller never ran the press and “thinks” it’s set up for 9mm.

These are all the parts I can ID. Help IDing the rest would be awesome!

650 press with mount, bullet tray, case feeder (lg pistol and small rifle plates), #5 shell holder, sm priming system, powder throw.

Accessories/spare parts: lg primer system, lots of primer tubes, lg primer cassette?, caliber change kit (#1 shell holder), lg volume powder measure x2?, low primer sensor, misc rods, spare powder throw system, powder charge sensor?

The fact that it has a large pistol case feeding plate leads me to believe it’s not actually set up to run 9mm?

Off to watch lots of videos now!

You mentioned everything I see. If you take apart one of the powder measures you'll learn and be able to identify all the pieces inside of it.

Looks like you have a good variety of conversions for various cartridges.

Thanks! I’m slowly getting it figured out. Looks like I’m missing a couple pieces for the powder check system. A small part of the case feed system is also broken. D5825FDC-0E9E-4804-84B4-9F5DAC46F351.jpg

Give Dillon an email about any missing parts. I bought a press used and admitted it had missing parts and they sent them for free. They have an excellent warranty. I have heard that they are now charging shipping to Canada since the last time I delt with them. Still not a bad deal. I had the parts in about two weeks.

Can anyone shed some light on what the purpose of the different failsafe rods are for? One has a slightly different angle.

Hard to tell from the picture but I think the straight one??? is for the 550 (9700) and the angled one is for the 650 (13629).

From what I recall, the powder measure rod with the pronounced dogleg is for the current production powder measures with the brass-coloured plates (i.e. the failsafe upgrade). The other powder measure rod is for the pre-failsafe powder measures that have the black-colour plates. IIRC, the newer rod can be used with the older powder measure, but not vice-versa.

EDIT: I looked at your pictures more and I think you can disregard what I mentioned --- I think I see what you mean... both the types of rods you have appear to be the newer failsafe ones, but there are different bends.

You have 4 powder op rods 3 loose & one in the press) for different era's of manufacture, the one in the press is for the modern "fail-safe" as is one of the loose rods with same bend.
The powder warning systems you ask about are special order not included in the box when a press is ordered. I would recomend you order & use a powder charge warning beeper. The powder measure beeper is a sort of redundant item as a quick glance in the plastic hopper will tell you the same thing.
A pdf download of the op manual from the Dillon site will tell you everything you need to know about your machine.
Dont worry much about the correct plate for your case feeder, I use both small & large pistol interchangably for 9 mil, 45 acp, .38sp or .45 Colts, the only time I have found a difference is when using for long rifle cases, then I use the third plate.
I dont know what Rocketman is referring to on the rod for the primer feed, I have owned two 650's and have never seen a rod needed on any primer feed at all.

Yeah I have 3 identical fail safe rods (one has a broken bushing, so the extra was probably a warranty replacement). I’m just not sure what the straight rod is for.

I won’t bother with the powder measure sensor, I agree with yah..just look at the damn hopper lol. I’m missing a couple pieces for the powder charge sensor. Will get those sent when I contact Dillon for a replacement case feed slide.

The straight rod goes down your primer tube and rests on the primer stack. Gives you an idea that primers are running low when the rod is down all the way.

That’s what the plastic rod is for. I’m talking about the metal rod with the hook on the end and the blue plastic nut.

It looks like the only piece missing is the plunger assembly. There are a few different threaded rods which have various sized brass plungers. I use the one pictured for 9/38/357.

Pro tip: Jab the brass plunger in an out of some powder prior to use so that powder won't stick to it . Do not rub it with a dryer sheet or it will pull half the powder out of the case.

Dont worry about the white plastic things staying in one piece, every one I have used breaks quite quickly at the shoulder the way the one is in your photo. The one in my 650 right now has been broken for 10 yrs thru thousands of rounds with no effect on its function.
