I picked up a Ruger 300 RCM and was wondering if the M77 Hawkeye would need some barrel relief as it is quite tight against the stock...? Also, I was considering adding a Leupold VX 3 2.5 x 8 -36 scope and wondering which size rings would be needed...? When I got it it had peep site on it - so I'll try that first and see how that works. Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

I think they intentionally build them with a pressure point at the front of the stock. I sanded mine away and have yet to fire it like that. I did this because the original accuracy was terrible like that with over 2" groups. Comparatively, my identical 260 shoots .5 moa with no mods so you might want to test it first!

I have a 2-7x33 Leupold compact scope on one and it has the low and medium ring combo (size 3&4?). The objective clearance is ok with a nice cheek weld. No problem with bolt clearance. I could dig it out and see if it would take your slightly larger objective.

Edit: mine are the Compacts without sights so this info might be totally useless to you.

Greetings propliner thanks for your comments, and that would be good if you can check it out for the larger objective. When I bought it - it came with a peep site mounted on the rear base/dovetail. The usual factory site was removed from the mid-point of the barrel. If I mount rings and a scope I'll have to remove the rear peep site. Although I'll admit it looks good with the peep site on it. Also, I added a slip-on Limbsaver Butt pad so I could get a bit more LOP. I may also add a KICK-EEZ Cheek-EEZ if needed.

Here's a pic of my .260 with a 2-7x33. It has a Ruger #3 ring on front and a #4 on the rear. There would be plenty of room for a 36mm bell.
