Ruger American Ranch 762x39 Quality Control

I have never been a fan of either Ruger or Savage rifles, other than their high end pieces, such as Ruger No1, Ruger Red Label shotguns and Savage 99 of good quality. Even those all needed work to get them to shoot to the standards of those produced by most off the shelf Winchester and Remington etc.

Low quality European or other offshore brands don't give any better quality for the money.

Also, other than the 99s there is no such thing as a "very nice" Savage bolt rifle as they are just FUGLY. Savage shotguns are hohum quality as well.

$800 is a lot of money for some folks, for others it's pocket change.

OP, you could have bought a HOWA for similar dollars and would have been much happier.

Don't shoot it and send it back, telling them the quality promised in their ads is lacking and buy a Howa in the same chambering.

Lol Howa Mini HTI stocks are hot garbage, along with the plastic bottom metal you can’t even tighten an inch pound without cracking. Every mini I’ve owned (that’s a total of four now) the forestock is jammed hard against the side of the barrel just like that Ruger in his picture, except the newer gen American stocks with the honeycomb forend are way stiffer than the minis HTI one.

The actions themselves aren finished better than the Ruger but the Ruger runs just fine once slicked up.

I have 3 ruger American ranches.

My 5.56 ranch with 69 grain handloads will print 0.33 moa all day out to 300 yards (have not had a chance to push it further).

450BM... Never shot it yet but it looks good

7.62 x 39 - has a tooling mark on the barrel about 3 inches from the muzzle. It's a ring around the od.. Kinda looks like the lathe was backed out a bit and then corrected. Looks rather odd but this rifle is a good shooter. 0.75 moa @ 100 with barnaul. 0.5 with lapua. I figure my handloads will take it down even further this spring.

Seems like the most recent runs of 7.62x39 Americans has some qc issues. Welcome to 2022/2023 though. Every dam thing I have purchased has had issued. Overall, they are good rifles for the money and the simply perform. I highly doubt a Savage or mossberg will keep up. My 5.56 keeps up with my t3x super varmint all day.

I was seriously considering the HOWA, Savage Scout, and the CZ527.
Other than the ones listed above, I couldn't think of alternative bolt guns in 7.62x39.

The Howa was at the top of the list but everywhere was out of stock, and I was thinking when they came back in stock they would update the price exceeding $1000

Also Cabela's says no returns.

That inletting job is pretty sloppy but I've seen the same on pricier wood stocked guns too TBH. Guess what? One of em was on a Howa Mini with a walnut stock. Cost a lil more than the Ruger ;) Seen it on CZs too.

Honestly I'd touch it with a file and not care any more than that. Or swap a stock with someone someday.

The bolt handles gonna look like that after you shoot about it.

To each their own and its YOUR opinion that counts but I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

The difference between the Ruger American and Savage Scout in 7.62x39 seems to be that the Ruger doesn't just hold 3 rounds and work a lot better with only 2 and break magazines. That was the deal killer for me. I genuinely like Axis rifles apart from their cheap matte "blue" finish and spotty ejection in 223 Rem.

I was looking at the reviews of the Savage Scout and noted the same differences. It seemed that the American Ranch would be a slightly better.

Just block bed the rifle and it will be 100%

I personally think it won't affect accuracy at all.

5 mins with a Dremel it will be freefloated and centered

If you don't want to bed the stock you could always use a heat to soften it up and give it a little bend

Mine was the same… but I paid 600 years ago. For 800 that’s unacceptable. I was very disappointed with the flexible tupperwear stocks. The action too a million cycles to smooth out as well… I kept saying for 179 dollars more I could have got a Tikka.

I'm pretty disappointed that $800 doesn't go very far these days.

Don't listen to the nay sayers.

Mine looks almost the same. It is a 5 min fix, use some 2,000 wet sand on the bolt and reblue 2 or 3 times, for the barrel, just go over with some acetone and some blueing as well. Not worth the hassle. The replacement will look the same.

PS: The rebluing needs to be done over the whole bolt and barrel. I just did it on mine in 5 minutes after reading your post, lol.

Might need to do the same at some point. I am somewhat shocked that I need to modify a $800 gun new out of the box.

I bought one last summer -2022- and it had a f-d bore, bad 'scarring' part-way thru. I spoke with Gravel re warranty, but they wanted me to pay shipping and ?who knows how long? OR what the result would be. I didn't want to lose the /summer shooting OR pay $60+ to 'bet' I'd get satisfaction. I went out to shoot and it gets MOA out to 180yds with ChiMilSurp OR Barnaul, so I WIN THAT BET !!
TWO AREAS like this, ca 4-inches out from chamber :

SHOOTS LIKE THIS -180YDS :

I own a .223 and I'm not a fan of plastic stocks. Mine isn't bent like the OP and no shipping kisses. What I see here in these forums modify, modify. What I would suggest get a nice wooden stock, the shipping kiss on the bolt sucks as long as the bolt seats well and the ejector on the bolt isn't damaged you're good to go. Quality is number 1 and Americans seem to play this card often I guess the train has left the station on this gun and this made in America pride ideology went the way with the baby and the bath water. I've seen from other posts on Gunnutz sub standard quality on the bolt and ejector. I see the OP point you pay good dollar for a quality gun and get sub standard work at the end point of production.

...Now that it is in my possession, should I submit it for a warranty?
Is this acceptable quality control for $800?...

That's what $800 gets you in this market. Looks cheap because it is cheap. Probably won't stop it from shooting well, though.

There's nothing stopping you from asking the retailer if they'll do something about it, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Not sure about the rifle itself...but the Ruger feed system certainly is.

Plus the option to convert to AR mags and use 10 shot pistol mags if you want to.

Savage Axis scout. It’s in the cal. I am not posting any links. Google it yourself.

yes sure, you may want to separate available and sold out items. Bullseye and others did not have it in stock since ages.

Available on non forum sponsors for 699 IN STOCK. Took me 3 seconds to find… not sure how far down this rabbit hole you want to go. You’re just embarrassing yourself.

I know you are a genius. I actually found 2, one for 810 (Kelvin's taxidermy and gun shop), the other one for 890, you said bullseye 629 which turned out to be incorrect.

Even a non sponsor's name can be posted.

Nothing to do with rabbit hole and embarrassing. I am just asking for the source of your claim.
