Looks like the new Ruger/Marlin 336 has dropped. A beautiful rifle that seems to be as good or maybe even better then the JM Marlins. Sofar look like the Classic is the only model released....now comes the real problem. Get the classic or wait to see what other models come out....I hope a stainless version is next, I will be adding one or two to my collection nodoubt.
I also see it's offered in 30-30 Win or .35 rem. I have never shot .35 rem. Is there any real positives or negatives I should consider?

Neither is a long range caliber, but the 30-30 is faster, flatter & ammunition is likely to be more widely available than the 35Rem...

Here is what Hornady says about 30-30 vs 35Rem with their LeverEvolution ammunition. The difference on paper really is negligible.

I went 35Rem for two reasons. I see my Marlin 336 as a brush gun & I wanted the bigger projectiles. There's also something that appeals to me with the 35Rem being just a little different. After all, everybody's got a 30-30...

Here's a buck I harvested with my Marlin 336 in 35Rem.

Only negative probably will be availability. I know guys who have been waiting 1.5 to 2 years on the SBL's with no availability in sight.

Yikes, going to have to be quick on the draw when they are available I suppose, no procrastination lol.

I have a Marlin 336, approx. 50 years old, in 35 Rem. I've shot it next to a Win 1894 in 30-30.

In terms of positives about the 35 Rem: With most loadings it is just a little bit more powerful than the 30-30. Also, the larger, heavier, bullets are typically claimed to be more effective on game as well as less likely to be deflected by brush. Honestly, though, I'm sure that the deer wouldn't ever know the difference between the two calibres.

A negative about the 35 Rem, as mentioned by others, is that ammo is a lot harder to come by and selection is far more limited compared to 30-30.

Anyone else notice the price jump on these new 336's? They priced them the exact same as the 1895 GBL's.

That does seem to be on the high end for a base model 336.
