Hi,
Just tried some sks loads. I'm quite happy.
(Loads for your information only. Use at your own risk.)

Tula 1951 sks.
50 meters
Lee 180gr cast
COL: 2.150"
H335 powder
17.0gr: 1106 fps group: 1.105"
18.0gr: 1230 fps group: 1.170"
All cycles the action well.

Lee 180gr cast
COL: 2.150"
Accurate 5744
11.0gr: 1072 fps group: 0.955" 50m
Don't cycle.

Need to make more tests but, I'm good with 2 moa with an SKS with open sights.

What are you guys using for lube? I tried cast in an SVT and found my alox/beeswax to spray back around the fluted chamber as well as gumming up the gas piston. No leading though.

I started powder coating on my cast a short time ago with moderate success, meaning I'm not up to copper jacket velocities but getting above 1500 fps. I haven't PC'd the SKS rounds yet but I will soon. No leading with PC.

This illustrates the balance of gas volume and peak pressure required to cycle an action.

The 18.0 gr load of H335 probably has about the same peak pressure as the 11.0 gr A5744 load (a limiting factor of the firearm), but it produces a larger volume of gas (and a higher average pressure).

You could increase your load of A5744 to 15.0 grs as a Max, and probably cycle the action, but reducing the H335 to 15.0 grs, and it likely wouldn't cycle.

This is especially of interest to those wanting to produce subsonic loads in semi-autos. I doubt it can be done in the SKS, just like it seems impossible in the AR-15. People weaken the recoil spring and it ejects, but then it doesn't have enough forward energy to strip and chamber the next round.

Got 1062 fps with 16.0gr of H335 that cycle. That would be a nice subsonic load.
I'll try with heavier loads but for paper punching to 100y, 1200fps is good.
I powder coats all my cast bullets.

The SKS is extemely over gassed. I ended up drilling a few holes in the gas cylinder
